November 16 9369 baygirl 0 N N
Note: With approval by Chris Bennett and Jayce Madden, platform Team Osprey volunteer group repaired platform today
November 16 9370 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Team Osprey repaired the platform today with DNREC permission, unable to place a marker on the correct location, this website needs serious attention! I have sent admin emails with no response. this is very frustrating to volunteers who would simply like to enter this years correct data
November 16 9371 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Team osprey attempted to get to this platform to repair but was unable to get back the gut with 24' schiff, nest has ropes and other debris hanging off the perimeter, definitely needs a clean-out!
December 2 8009 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Team Osprey repaired platform today, did not appear to be active in 2023
December 2 8010 baygirl 0 N N
Note: platform repair today by team Osprey, did not appear it was active in 2023
December 2 6046 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Team Osprey repaired platform today, does not appear its been active, possibly due to laughing gull colony, has a shiny new DNREC tag, now #196
December 9 6042 baygirl 0 N N
Note: With permit from Jordan Brown, DNREC, Team Osprey removed the existing old v shape platform by the encroaching beach area and placed a new De Sussex design platform farther back in the marsh, about 50 yds. The beach location was too close to human activity, people harassing the ospreys. Website does not allow me to move the lat and long to exact new location
January 18 7076 baygirl 0 N N
Note: The nest platform was reported destroyed after last week's storms, I assessed today, no nest material, no nest box, chicken wire hanging on one board, The platform is no longer usable and will need a complete rebuild.
January 29 6182 baygirl 0 N N
Note: nest is being considered for a new platform retrofitted to tilt as "goose excluder" prototype. 45 degree tilt of platform would deter geese but not remove nest material
February 7 8724 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Team osprey volunteers cleaned nest of trash and trimmed extremely overflowing heavy nest
February 7 8011 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Team Osprey volunteers trimmed extremely high over flowing , removed trash from nest
February 20 7076 baygirl 0 N N
Note: This website needs to be fixed, unable to enter any corrections to nest locations, many nests in the Sussex County area of Delaware require new GPS data! I have sent emails and called CCB with no response or correction to the site. This nesting platform was destroyed in the fall of 2023, I was contacted and given permission from DNREC to place a new platform on the island, it is now located more interior and north on the island but very visible from Victoria St. New platform built by Jodi McLaughlin and installed by Team Osprey. The location should be safer for ospreys as its a bit farther from kayaks and boats.
February 25 6335 baygirl 0 N N
Note: attempted to assess the platform for trash removal /nest trim and any necessary repairs but the platform is not accessible from the nature center marsh due to degrading marsh conditions. I may be able to access from the community next door in the fall but will need hOA permission.
February 25 6242 baygirl 0 N N
Note: the platform requires repairs but is very tall (24' ext ladder needed) and not accessible due to degrading marsh conditions! walked marsh today may try in the fall to access from the community lot with permission from the HOA
February 28 7845 baygirl 0 N N
Note: snag nest came down fall of 2023
March 1 6027 baygirl 0 N N
Note: this nest site no longer exists, was a collection of dead trees that are all down due to rising water in the marsh
March 17 6182 baygirl 0 N N
Note: goose nesting
March 17 6182 baygirl 0 N N
Note: platform is falling down, all sides are off the nest box, braces loose, platform is not being maintained by property owner! geese on nest since 3/17/24, male osprey in tree stress calling
March 18 7459 baygirl 2 N N
Note: goose excluder was not removed from nest for over one week after pair arrived to nest,, pair was placing nest material for a week, pair was not at nest when excluder was finally removed, the excluder project is only as safe and effective as the person monitoring the excluder!
March 22 7500 baygirl 0 N N
Note: 1 osprey has been at nest for a few days but noticed nest is falling today, appears a support branch has broken
March 24 7202 baygirl 0 N N
Note: one osprey hanging around the trees and snag near road, do not see mate or evidence of new snag nest location
March 25 8358 baygirl 0 N N

March 27 6005 baygirl 0 N N
Note: appears one is incubating, will confirm this..
March 28 8354 baygirl 0 N N
March 28 7076 baygirl 0 N N
Note: O pair has built up larger nest from the starter nest placed on new platform,
March 28 6042 baygirl 0 N N
Note: This website is not working properly, so frustrating for dedicated volunteers
March 28 6402 baygirl 0 N N
Note: O pair may be same pair that nested east of boardwalk past 2 yrs, they are now building up the small snag nest and flying to trees at the Villas where there was once a productive snag nest...
March 28 6032 baygirl 0 N N
Note: nest came down over the winter, appears the branch on snag broke
March 28 7126 baygirl 0 N N
Note: hoping this pair can nest successfully this year as it will be their first full season together, assuming its the same 2 ospreys as last year, original male and new female
March 28 8672 baygirl 0 N N
Note: excluder placed on channel marker as per DNREC Watershed, pair has accepted the platform for 2024
March 28 8971 baygirl 0 N N
Note: pair no longer able to nest at this location, DNREC Watershed and volunteers placed excluder on channel marker, pair is nesting at #8672 Pepper Creek/Point Farm as of 3/15/24
March 28 8049 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Deldot repaired sagging nest box in early March, have seen just 1 osprey so far
March 28 8157 baygirl 0 N N
Note: snag came down fall of 2023, community discussed platform but did not follow thru
March 28 8066 baygirl 0 N N
Note: snag nest and part of snag down fall 2023, male at prior nest area spring 2024, eating fish
March 28 8011 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Residents named this pair Olive and Otis
March 28 6027 baygirl 0 N N
Note: pair may now be at snag near basketball court on nature center property
March 28 6159 baygirl 0 N N
Note: i believe this nest platform was removed
March 28 6011 baygirl 0 N N
Note: residents approached our team about a new platform, larger size and farther off water line for fall 2024, this platform is low and small
March 28 6231 baygirl 0 N N
Note: again this year the ospreys chose this platform, gull on #126, in 2023 geese were on #126
March 28 6237 baygirl 0 N N
Note: geese nesting as of 3/20/24

Note: geese incubating eggs, have not seen the ospreys this season-yet
March 30 7061 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Have not seen mate but male is at nest building up nest since 3/22/24
March 30 7126 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Not sure there is a bonded pair at this nest, male is at nest, bringing nest material, female not seen today,
March 31 6234 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Pair flushed off nest due to fisherman standing within 25 ' of nest for over 30 minutes, no signage or protections in place at this time so this allows people to walk thru the James Farm Eco Preserve marsh grasses and stay very close to nest.
March 31 6024 baygirl 2 N N
Note: 2 ospreys on nest this evening but there is some shuffling between the nests across the channel, #179 and #180 so I can not confirm the nest active yet. the new female would be unaccustomed to the high amount of human activity at this marina nest, she let out a warning call when i was 200 ' from nest at the end of the nearby bay ramp.the residents are not here yet!
March 31 7126 baygirl 1 N N
Note: observing the nest cam today, not at nest site, did not see a female, just the male bringing in nest materials, can not confirm a bonded pair at this time, no incubating!
April 1 6024 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Pair at nest in 3/31/24, building up nest material, female at nest now
April 1 7126 baygirl 1 N N
Note: 1 male at nest, second male on nest, small squirmish, second male leaves, no female seen, nest look somewhat fuller
April 2 7126 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Good looking male is still alone at nest, perhaps the rain has kept a female away, or his true mate has not yet arrived
April 3 7126 baygirl 1 N N
Note: There is just the male at nest site, has not built up nest, no female seen today, site lists incubation and that is incorrect
April 4 7126 baygirl 2 N N
Note: another female with large necklace arrived mid day, some male mantling behaviors, nest building, lets see if this gal sticks, no pun intended
April 5 6181 baygirl 2 N N
Note: both may have been a nest site before today but I was not able to confirm due to shuffling between 3 nest sites
April 5 7126 baygirl 2 N N
Note: copulation, marking nest active since female is accepting male
April 14 8011 baygirl 0 N N
Note: canada goose has taken over nest, ospreys have moved away from the nest territory, residents are feeding the deer and attracting the geese
April 15 6181 baygirl 2 N N
Note: pair copulating
April 16 6182 baygirl 0 N N
Note: observed a BAEA on tree that osprey male often roosted, goose covered eggs with down and flew off with mate
April 19 6182 baygirl 0 N N
Note: goose and goslings in waterway, nesting platform empty, no ospreys seen for past few weeks, platform has been broken since last fall 2023 but now has no sides to the box, nest box is leaning, platform is no longer safe for ospreys or geese, I recommend it is taken down since the property owner does not live at house and no one is doing any maintenance on this high risk location, this is the best time to remove it, permit necessary
April 26 6182 baygirl 0 N N
Note: This broken platform was removed at noon today with permit from DEFW , this was necessary due to ongoing goose nesting issues and lack of interest by property owner to repair the unsafe very old and poorly built tall platform. It was on a narrow dock and not accessible for maintenance. Geese have nested the past 2 seasons. 2023, the male and female osprey arrived after the geese began incubating eggs and they remained at the nest area but did not claim the nest after the goose left. This season the male osprey arrived 1 week after the goose started incubating but did not remain in the nest territory and has not been seen recently. The female osprey did not arrive as of today, 4-26-24. The platform location on a dock where many people kayak and want to crab and fish was never a safe location. Since no adult ospreys are now at the territory it is the best time to remove the structure.
April 26 7126 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: assuming egg laid 4/25 or very early 4/26, unable to rewind to get exact time, one egg visible early today , 4/26
April 26 7126 baygirl 0 1 N
Note: nest cam: female flew off the single egg from approx (using clock not time stamp) 7:25 to 8:00pm, possiblyy due to people on deck for sunset, she became alarmed and left nest unattended, returned and continued incubating egg, this is the first season to incubate for this female who arrived mid season in 2023, she may be stressed by proximity of people and dogs on restaurant deck?
April 27 7126 baygirl 1 Y N
Note: female off egg more than on the egg all day, this evening she left egg around sunset and has not returned, not seeing the male on nest to take over incubating or to bring her fish
April 27 7126 baygirl 1 1 N incubation
Note: nest cam rewind shows female off the egg from approximately 2am until 6:35 am, then off egg again at 11:50 am until... still off egg at 12:28, not being on site I can only guess the factors here are a new unsettled female, possibly she is young and also the stress of the activity at the near-by restaurant? the male needs to feel safe to deliver fish, time will tell how this egg does.
April 28 7126 baygirl 0 N N
Note: female off nest much of today, at 4:37, 2 fish crows began pecking at and ate one of the eggs, possibly cracking the other, at 5:37 female osprey arrived and attempted to incubate remaining egg. at 5:55 she stood up and no egg was visible , perhaps stuck to her? she flew off and nest had zero eggs. male has not been visible on nest cam, not sure he is still at nest territory
April 28 7126 baygirl 1 2 N
Note: 2nd egg laid at 8:07 this morning, female was rarely on the single egg overnight, not seeing the male on nest to assist in incubation
April 29 7126 baygirl 2 N N
Note: stopped by to see what this pair is doing, and saw the male tussling with the osprey pair that is attempting nesting on a duck blind that is directly out the marsh, I noticed the old signs and posts in that marshy area that were once a nice boundary for the males to perch on are all gone. The female was up on the nest perch. Earlier today I noticed the male was visiting and brought fish to the nest regularly, but eggs are gone. Perhaps a 3rd egg will be laid, but something is disturbing this pair. The platform is close to a restaurant deck and some females can take a few years to acclimate to that stress
May 2 7126 baygirl 2 N N
Note: interesting behavior of the female as she appears to be incubating eggs that are no longer in the nest, she lays often, fluffs the towel in the nest and occasionally displays nesting behavior?
May 5 7126 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: egg left unattended numerous times today, female appears to not know what to do with the egg, male is good at turning and aerating, when he bringgs a fish, the female mantles over it, trying to eat at nest but eventually leaves. The egg is a gorgeous dark wine color. I guess this is females first nesting season
May 5 7126 baygirl 1 1 N incubation
Note: female begins egg laying behavior at 10:40, egg laid approx 10:47, some incubation observed, male brings fish approx 11:45, female mantles over fish but then flies off and male begins incubation, this is the third egg but other 2 eggs were abandoned and crows ate them
May 6 7126 baygirl 1 1 N
Note: nest cam check-male was on egg last evening but left egg unattended at 8:25 pm, no incubation or adult overnight, female returned this morning, egg is once again being left for long periods of time
May 6 7126 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: nest cam check: male is more interested in incubation than female, have not seen female turn eggs and she tends to stand over the egg as much as incubate, 8:40 pm she left egg, at 10:10pm egg still unattended, no adults on nests most of each night
May 7 7126 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: no incubation all night during rain, both taking turns on egg after 5:55am this morning, I can not imagine this egg will be viable
May 8 6233 baygirl 0 N N
Note: canada geese up on platform again, they have already hatched 1 clutch of goslings in April, no ospreys seen
May 9 7126 baygirl 2 2 N incubation
Note: Nest cam check;Female laid another egg just after 4 am, this would be her 4th egg, althougth the first 2 were taken by crows. the 3rd egg has not been incubated regularly, left in the rain overnight for at least 2-3 times so if this pair now incubates normally it will be interesting to see how many nestlings hatch...This morning,Since this 4th egg was laid both ospreys have been consistenlty incubating
May 12 7126 baygirl 1 2 N incubation
Note: incubation is now consistent, view of the last 2 eggs at 11:03 am, shows the smaller 4th egg next to the 3rd egg.
May 16 7459 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young laying down
Note: 2 chicks seen during feeding
May 18 7126 baygirl 2 2 N incubation
Note: male on nest over night, somewhat unusual, this male incubates much of the time since the female does not, the 4th egg laid may be the only one of the 2 to hatch, it is smaller and darker, the other egg was left out in the elements for many hours the first few days after it was laid
May 20 9981 baygirl 2 N N
Note: a pair has been looking to build a nest for the 2022 and 2023 season and this year they found a snag! beginning nest on tall snag visible from beach as well as Bayshore mobile home park and James Farm blue trail observation deck, discovered during our osprey talk and very exciting for the attendees!
May 26 6453 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young laying down
May 26 6231 baygirl 1 N 3 feeding, young standing
Note: Passed by on boat and clearly saw 3 nestlings, they appear to be about 7-10 days old
May 26 6231 baygirl 2 N 3 feeding, young laying down
Note: first view of 3 small chicks
May 30 7459 baygirl 2 N 1 feeding, young laying down
Note: only 1 chick remains
June 6 6042 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young laying down
Note: finally see 2 little heads
June 7 8096 baygirl 1 N 3 young standing
June 9 7126 baygirl 2 2 N incubation
Note: incubation has been mostly consistent since 4th egg laid on 5-9, 3rd egg was laid 5-5 so hatch could be anytime within the next week. However 3rd egg was not incubated regularly, 4th egg should hatch sometime after 6-13
June 11 6039 baygirl 2 N 3 feeding, young laying down
Note: first day to confirm the 3rd chick
June 14 7126 baygirl 2 1 1 incubation, young laying down
Note: egg #3 hatched at 7:32, male was on nest often today, female was very restless, finally one egg has hatched! 40 days incubation on an egg that was initially left unattended for long periods of time. Perhaps that delayed its development and hopefully egg #4 will hatch very soon, it is day 36 today
June 14 4463 baygirl 1 N N
Note: yesterday the occasional male stopped by and then a female but he gave chase and they didnt return, today there is a female on nest again for short period...perhaps we have a sub adult checking out the platform and the male will decide to keep her? if platform is not occupied this season I recommend adding a nice starter nest for the 2025 season. Hopeful it will not be needed and a pair finds this platform and starts housekeeping soon
June 15 6039 baygirl 2 N 3 young laying down
Note: large sheet of plastic in nest covering the chicks, removed safely and quickly
June 15 6784 baygirl 2 N N
Note: new pair this season, was no female in 2023, as per my notes- this is the final day I noted both at nest, did not see any nesting attempt, hoping for 2025! There tends to be quite a bit of tussling with the nearby nesting pairs
June 15 7126 baygirl 2 1 1 incubation, young standing
Note: female not feeding the nestling, she eats the fish, stands far from the baby and wont reach close enough to feed it, this has to be a new mom, 4th egg should hatch soon, hope this female figures it out
June 16 7812 baygirl 2 N 2 young laying down
Note: hard to get count but confirmed 2 this day
June 16 6026 baygirl 2 N 3 young laying down
June 17 7126 baygirl 2 1 1 incubation, feeding, young laying down
Note: female is feeding the nestling more regularly but clearly is detached from the effort, she should click in as the nestling gets more active, 4th egg is due to hatch any day now
June 18 7126 baygirl 2 1 1 incubation, feeding, young laying down
Note: female flies off nest regularly, male will then attempt to incubate #4 egg and brood the one #3 nestling, that is unusual! 2:37 male incubates and broods, no TS on this nest cam. 3:45 female off nest again, could be disturbance or just a nervous or immature female, #4 egg is exposed often, nestling alone at nest.may be best it does not hatch
June 18 6402 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young laying down
June 19 6011 baygirl 1 2 N incubation
Note: 2 eggs visible when a fishing net that was tangled on nest was removed
June 20 6235 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: still see incubation behavior
June 20 8142 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young standing
June 21 8017 baygirl 2 N N
June 22 8016 baygirl 0 N N
Note: pair did not lay eggs this year, platform is very low and leaning, needs to be rebuilt
June 23 6039 baygirl 0 N 3 young laying down
Note: very windy day, appears female left for fish to feed her chicks, no adult at nest this morning, common sight around the area this season- chicks left alone for long periods
June 23 7126 baygirl 2 1 1 young laying down
Note: egg #4 is not viable, laid on 5-9, so today 6-23 makes 45 days, we can be pretty sure that the egg is not going to hatch, the chick from egg #3 continues to be fed somewhat regularly but left alone for periods of time, this evening both adults were tramping on the nestling while they tussled over where to place nest materials. interesting pairing and hopeful the nestling can survive to fledge with the intense heat
June 25 9973 baygirl 2 N 3 young laying down
June 25 6039 baygirl 1 N 3 feeding, young laying down
Note: beginning to see #3 chick fed rarely, aggression from older chicks, lack of regular fish delivery by adult male, female fishing
June 26 7126 baygirl 1 1 1 incubation, young laying down
Note: female continues to focus on incubating the 4th egg while nestling from #3 egg is not being brooded or shaded for large periods of time, #4 egg is 48 days old. female does not feed consistently, does not fill single nestlings crop...
June 27 6039 baygirl 1 N 3 young standing
Note: 2 older chicks attacking #3, at 5:40 adult male drops a fish but female not at nest, chicks can not self feed, male leaves, chicks alone for 35 minutes, femal arrives 6:10 and begins to feed the 2 older chicks, #3 does not get fed, older chicks not allow #3 to stand
June 27 7126 baygirl 1 1 1 feeding, young standing
Note: storm overnight, nestling getting fed well this morning!
June 28 7061 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young laying down
Note: 2 smaller chicks with female
June 28 6039 baygirl 1 N 3 feeding, young standing
Note: #3 not fed once again
June 29 7126 baygirl 1 1 1 young standing
Note: observed nest cam a few times today, seeing the chick aggressive towards the mother, this female does not feed the chick until it has a full crop, seeing chick on adult aggression points to hunger, good thing the 4th egg did not hatch
June 29 7061 baygirl 0 N 1 young laying down
Note: no adults near nest territory
June 29 6402 baygirl 2 N 2 young laying down
Note: nest may have collapsed a bit
June 29 6039 baygirl 1 N 3 feeding, young laying down
Note: have not observed #3 fed since 6-27, no feeding all day today. I can observe this nest from my home, #3 is weak and hiding at edge of nest
June 30 7061 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no activity
June 30 6039 baygirl 1 N 3 feeding, young standing
Note: saw no fish delivery by adult male, female left and returned with partial fish at 10:25, only #1 chick ate, #2 chick getting violent with #3, 12:15 pm adult male drops partial fish, female feeds #1 and #2, #3 is shut down head hanging submissive posture, has not eaten more than a bite or 2 in at least 3 days, male is absent from the nest territory except at sunset where he perches in far snag, female is doing most of the providing now
July 1 6039 baygirl 1 N 2 young standing
Note: hard rain over night, NNW winds at 16 mph in the morning, 9 am female flew away from nest, 9:45 am no adults at nest, only 2 chicks visible now, 1:15 adult male drops a fish, 2 chicks alone, fight to try to eat fish by themselves
July 2 8319 baygirl 1 N 1 feeding, young standing
Note: may be more than one chick, appear to be around 6 weeks of age, hard to get good view from West Bay community
July 2 6268 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no activity seen, platform is falling apart but is very high and tenous to repair
July 2 6087 baygirl 2 N 3 feeding, young laying down
July 2 8270 baygirl 1 U N incubation
Note: late incubation, do not know if eggs viable at this late date, one adult very deep in nest
July 2 9973 baygirl 1 N 1 feeding, young standing
July 2 6235 baygirl 1 N Y
Note: hatchling brooding behavior
July 2 6181 baygirl 0 N N
Note: I can observe this nest from my home, the pair never settled, off and on nest for weeks, currently no sightings of the pair for past few days-failure to lay eggs this season
July 3 6014 baygirl 2 N N
Note: new nest built up this season but no nesting attempt seen
July 4 6235 baygirl 1 N U feeding
July 4 6227 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young laying down
Note: checking chicks prior to fireworks, 2 chicks looking good with adult female in nest
July 4 8109 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: 1 large chick with adult female on tall nest with virginia creeper completely engulfing the platform, we cut the vine at the base to kill it, did not flush female as she is used to the kids fishing directly under her platform
July 4 7374 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: large chicks
July 4 7061 baygirl 1 N 2 young laying down
July 4 6009 baygirl 1 N 2 young laying down
July 5 6231 baygirl 0 N 3 feeding, young standing
Note: self feeding
July 5 7126 baygirl 2 1 1 feeding, young laying down
Note: female feeding single chick, wary, keeps looking towards the deck, but feeding the chick better lately, egg #4 never hatched and female has finally stopped attempting to brood and incubate at same time as chick is growing too big to fit with the egg! happy to see a growing chick this season
July 5 6234 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: 2 younger chicks
July 5 8275 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no activity seen at or near this location, blind is still there
July 5 8279 baygirl 0 N N
Note: snag looks active but just one adult and can not see any nestling activity from distance
July 5 8002 baygirl 0 N N
Note: nest appears built up, no adults seen and no nestlings or eggs visible from a distance, i am not authorised to approach nests so therefore this format/queitions do not apply to me and i just have to guess that theres no nestlings or eggs. this format is setup for permitted biologists or authorised individuals!!! random people monitoring should not be looking in nests to count eggs.
July 5 8269 baygirl 0 N N
Note: as in all other nests, I am only guessing at number of eggs or nestling since I am not authorized in the state of DE to approach nests to count,
July 5 8271 baygirl 0 N N
Note: assuming failed or never occupied, no activity seen
July 5 8003 baygirl 1 N N
Note: one male osprey being harassed by a male red-winged blackbird, did not appear chicks were in the nest but i assume it was active this season, no chicks survived- assumption due to the date and condition of nest only
July 5 8123 baygirl 1 N 1 feeding, young standing
Note: too far to see how many chicks but observed feeding behavior of at least one chick
July 5 8122 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no activity seen so i am only guessing due to the date and condition of the nest
July 5 8001 baygirl 1 N N
Note: one adult female on nest, no signs of eggs or nestlings, given the date I am assuming no productive this season or a fail
July 5 8276 baygirl 0 N N
Note: assuming a fail or inactive due to the date, no adults seen
July 5 8138 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no adults
July 5 8004 baygirl 0 N N
Note: new eagles nest on a spindly tall sparse tree at the woodsline just behind this platform, eagles eating in tree, no osprey activity past few years
July 5 8071 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no adults seen, due to the date I can assume nest fail
July 5 8268 baygirl 0 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: 2 large chicks, both self feeding, have or will fledge very soon
July 5 8070 baygirl 0 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: 2 large chicks both self feeding, should fledge soon if not already flying
July 5 6007 baygirl 1 N 3 young standing
Note: at least 1 chick has fledged, flew back to crowded nest, adult female up on platform T perch
July 6 6039 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young standing

Note: watched 1 chick fledge! flew around marsh and back to nest, not bad landing!
July 8 6026 baygirl 1 N 2 young laying down
July 8 6039 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: finally seeing more regular fish delivery by adult male starting 7-7, observed both adults bring fish this morning between 8-9 am
July 8 7539 baygirl 2 N 2 young standing
Note: fledglings active back and forth to nest
July 9 6011 baygirl 2 U N
Note: i can only assume eggs still in nest, both adults standing on nest rim today, no signs of incubating
July 9 6233 baygirl 2 N N
Note: appears to be a new pair at nest, male sky dance, brought fish to calling female
July 9 6039 baygirl 1 N 2 young laying down
Note: adult female shading 2 very fluffed up and hot chicks, extreme heat past few days, female seems to have started nurturing more since loss of #3 chick, maybe just my imagination but adult male seems more engaged as well....adequate fish has been an issue this summer, possibly due to heat
July 10 6236 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: only see 1 chick today and no adults in the nest territory
July 10 6235 baygirl 2 N 2 young laying down
July 11 4463 baygirl 0 N N
Note: nest remains inactive except for a few black vultures, platform might benefit from a starter nest and a cap over the nest cam to keep it clean, one male osprey does visit very very rarely and has dropped about 3 sticks here but no female or serious nest building again this season, plan is to get up to the nesting platform to enhance it
July 11 6246 baygirl 0 N N
Note: unable to find this platform at this location
July 11 8260 baygirl 0 N 2 young standing
Note: 2 very large chicks alone in nest, one wingercizing and getting some lift, will fledge very soon

July 11 8289 baygirl 0 N N
Note: platform did not look used this season, little nest material visible
July 11 8291 baygirl 2 N 3 feeding, young standing
Note: 3 large chicks, at least one fledged
July 11 8259 baygirl 0 N N
Note: saw no activity
July 11 7574 baygirl 0 N N
Note: nest was active early in season, incubation and feeding observed but nest failed at some point
July 11 9369 baygirl 2 N N
Note: 2 adults at nest, first just male then later female arrived after she was eating on snag down the creek, when she came back to nest, I saw no sign of chicks no heads no wing flips no indication there was young, asking me if there were eggs is not realistic, as a vlunteer i do not approach nests
July 11 8327 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: 2 chicks appear to be close to fledging age
July 11 8380 baygirl 0 N N
Note: platform is very low in marsh and has not been active for a few years now
July 11 7565 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no nest seen
July 11 6028 baygirl 1 N N
Note: 1 adult on platform, no other activity
July 11 6293 baygirl 2 N N
Note: i am still wondering if this female is the same that has a weakness to the right foot, observed her on the v perch of platform today and foot appeared splayed. If anyone who reads this is with UD and can do some maintinance on this platform I recommend adding 4 corner boards about 12" high on the nest box to hold nest material, this will allow the pair to build a more solid nest with a deeper nest bowl. due to the height of the platform the wind will be a factor so creating a safer nest box may save a few chicks nest season
July 11 5991 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: 2 large chicks either fledged or ready very soon, being fed by adult female
July 11 7513 baygirl 1 N 1 feeding, young standing
Note: 1 larger chick visible
July 11 8290 baygirl 1 N 3 young standing
Note: self feeding, 3 large aggressive chicks, fighting each other for fish, large amounts of baling twine in the nest, tether hazard for the ospreys! 608 is the address of property owner, chicks look very thin
July 11 8282 baygirl 1 N 2 young standing
Note: 2 large chicks ready or already fledged, 1 self feeding
July 11 8281 baygirl 1 N 3 young standing
Note: 1 chick self feeding, lots of wingercizing and not much space on the small nest box, expect fledgling any day now, bureau of public works is wonderful tp put up platforms however they might consider placing larger nest boxes with corner boards for safety of the chicks
July 11 6204 baygirl 0 N N
Note: saw nesting activity in late april but no activity or signs of chicks today

July 11 8245 baygirl 1 N 1 young laying down
Note: hard to see but 1 adult 1 larger chick vis
July 11 6099 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: 2 very large possibly fledged chicks with adult feeding one, for the life of me I can not imagine ever thinking i would want to put a batting cage under an osprey nesting platform but state park workers did just that here, miracle there are 2 chicks this season, none last year
July 11 7048 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no adults seen recently nest failed around 5-31, possibly predated by raccoons seen climbing trees as the people were feeding birds near nest
July 11 8154 baygirl 1 N 2 young standing
Note: 2 very large chicks in nest, one adult on pier piling opposite to the nest, mercifully its a desserted pier today, platform is extremely close to human activity and appears to be strapped onto a piling, hopefully it is also bolted! chicks should fledge soon if all goes well
July 11 9841 baygirl 1 N 2 young standing
Note: one adult on nest with 2 larger chicks, adult was issuing a warning call to 2 kayakers appproaching very close to nest, do not see anything to secure the nest that is just sitting on top of piling

Note: both have fledged
July 18 7061 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no activity seen or heard
July 19 8244 baygirl 1 N 2 young laying down
Note: was called by bird rescue to capture an adult osprey with broken wing, it appeared to be male, was very close to this nest on tall cell tower, I believe it belongs here, as I often see the bird in this same area, the female was on nest looking in direction where injured bird was laying, female calling for fish, 2 chicks approx 5-6 weeks old vis in nest, hopefully female can provide but chicks are likely not yet self feeding
July 19 6402 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: unable to delete error in data entry, 1 chick fledged at this nest but there were 2 until about 6-25
July 19 6335 baygirl 2 N 3 young standing
Note: 3 chicks fledged this past week, found 1 unable to fly today, hopping in marsh under nest, possible rt wing injury, taken to bird rescue
July 20 6236 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: appears to be the lone chick/fledgling? on ground platform support then it seemed to dive into marsh grass, saw wing flips but never saw it again... did not appear to be old enough for strong flight, i believe it fell from nest and died in marsh
July 20 7061 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no activity
July 20 6009 baygirl 0 N N
Note: nest empty, have not seen activity past few days following the 2 day heat wave where no adults were seen at or near nest

Note: 2 small chicks visible in nest, female in tree nearby, not seeing much protection on nest during the day, common at many nests this season-chicks often alone
July 21 6004 baygirl 2 N 3 young standing
Note: 2 fledg in nest, 1 fledg in tree, begging calls- i noted 3 fledglings but it still says "brooding", my data is important, why is it not noted as fledlgings?

July 25 6039 baygirl 0 N 2 young laying down
Note: rain continuing, have seen no adults and no fish as of 3:15 today
July 27 6039 baygirl 1 N 2 young standing
Note: single fledglin from nest 662 IB(directly across creek) has joined the nest, is taking most fish brought by adults, except at 5:15 pm #1 natal chick was able to grab a dropped fish, always frustrating to see an older bird take over a nest where fish is at a premium
July 27 6240 baygirl 1 N 1 young laying down
Note: can see just 1 chick with adult today
July 27 6227 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing

August 2 6235 baygirl 1 N N
Note: 1 adult deep in tree, no chick seen
August 3 6039 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: adult male finally makes first fish drop of the day, 3 way fight between interloper and #1 and #2, interloper grabbed fish and took to the far tree, #1 and #2 fight and one falls into the deep marsh grass, was struggling in the grass for about 5 minutes but eventually flew out and back to nest, later it was in the grass again but near the channel, it seemed hurt but did make it back to enst before sunset
August 3 6240 baygirl 0 N 2 young standing
Note: 2 larger chicks visible in nest
August 3 6039 baygirl 1 N 2 young standing

August 5 7126 baygirl 1 1 1 young laying down
Note: egg #4 is still in nest! female brought in whole fish, ate and then fed some to the chick, nice to see a nest with female still present and plenty of fish deliveries by both adults, nests north of Little Assawoman not doing as well this season
August 5 6026 baygirl 1 N 1
Note: fledged
August 6 6235 baygirl 0 N 1 young laying down
August 6 6039 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: interloper still at nest this morning, very contentious with 3 hungry fledglings tussling, male drops fish, #1 got it, all 3 fight, #1 ate a bit until #2 attacked, more fighting #2 fell over board into the marsh grass, and so did the fish, #2 was able to fly out of grass and to a nearby snag, then at 8:50 male drops 2nd fish, no longer see #2, .. and on and on it goes with not enough fish and too many fledglings!
August 6 7061 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no activity, nesting has failed as i should have been seeing large chicks at nest
August 7 8672 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing

August 7 7126 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: single chick wingercising this afternoon, saw only 1 partial fish delivery by adult male today, this was at 10 am, female was on nest calling for more fish and was not seen the rest of the off and on rainy day
August 7 8052 baygirl 1 N 1 feeding, young standing
Note: larger single chick being fed by adult female, looks to need about another week of growth, poorly built and placed nest platform is very low to water and leaning
August 8 8672 baygirl 1 N N
Note: chick either fledged or was blown into marsh, not at nest
August 8 7126 baygirl 2 1 1 young standing
Note: egg finally knocked off nest into the water by adult male at 6:02 am as the male brought in a live fish for the chick and adult female! chick is very active, getting ready for fledgling soon
August 9 8052 baygirl 0 N N
Note: following a night of high winds and rain, I was called to this creek area to capture an osprey fledging that was attacked by another osprey and was floating in the waterway, I retrieved the injuredfledgling from the culvert rocks at end of tributary, and checked this nest for the chick but did not see it in nest, not sure it could have fledged safely, did not see it in water, and do not know if the injured bird is from this nest or nest farther out the creek
August 10 6234 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: single surviving chick has fledged, perched o nearby post this afternoon, so happy it made it to fledge

August 24 6014 baygirl 1 N N
Note: nest and snag is down, stood until just recently
August 24 9981 baygirl 2 N N
Note: pair at nest, female remaining later than other females in nearby nests, no copulation was observed this season so no nesting attempt but a very nice nest that hopefully survives the 2025 season. it is nice to have a natural nest at the preserve where we have 8 nesting platforms. there was a snag nest on the east side of the preserve but it did not survive 2023/24 winter and we did not see the pair return, only a single male who didnt stick around
August 24 6039 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: 1 fledgling has remained at nest for days, calling for fish all day, each morning I believe adult male drops one whole or partial fish and then stays away until sunset when he perches on his favored snag, the begging fledgling has a light necklace and maybe a female,I think it is #2, it does not want to fish, its been about 3 weeks since it fledged, time to start fishing, i do enjoy being able to watch this family right outside my window year after year the drama continues
August 28 7126 baygirl 1 N 1 feeding, young standing
