Note: Most consistent 2 birds at nest, copulation attempt, then interloping male returned and challenges continue, some contact seen, second male has pure white chest, first male is busy defending and female gets out of the way, second female not seen today thus far , exciting time!
April 20 4463 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Male brings in first stick with pine cones!
April 20 4463 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Male has started to bring in pine branches and just now 10:05 he brought a large headless fish for the female. She took it away to eat, was back at 10:30. More copulation attempts. Intruder has not returned. I’m calling this a bonded pair.

April 20 7812 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Both on nest, no incubation observed
April 20 6236 baygirl 1 N N
Note: 1 on ground perch eating fish, could not see a second in nest, nest was high , could be incubating, will need to recheck
April 20 6298 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: 1 deep in nest, 1 on guard perch with fish
April 20 8131 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: confirm one deep, brooding, second on snag nearby
April 21 4463 baygirl 2 N N
Note: first fish delivery this morning the male didn’t actually deliver, he ate himself while female asked for it, hr later he delivered a partial fish for female , some tussling with interloper lots of attempted copulation, 1 piece of fluff delivered , second partial fish delivered to female at 2:19. Very little nest material has been brought by male, I will guess he is a first time “ mate” and expect a rough season for this pair, hope to be pleasantly surprised! This site may be a huge challenge for a new inexperienced pair. The location is challenging due to proximity for park visitors and all day maintenance vehicles,. The site is very loud in general due to the pharmaceutical factory next door. For new osprey observers this nest cam location and osprey behavior is a master class.
April 21 12341 baygirl 2 N N

April 21 6559 baygirl 2 U N incubation

April 21 6237 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Canada Goose nesting
April 21 6238 baygirl 0 N N
Note: No ospreys seen or heard, nest has much trash in it
April 22 7993 baygirl 2 N N
Note: both at nest, male on upper branch of snag, female in column nest
April 22 12242 baygirl 2 N N
Note: 2 ospreys at nest area, then male flew off, female stayed on branch of snag the hour I was on the trail, last season just the male was at this site
April 22 4463 baygirl 2 N N
Note: 3rd osprey, presumed female, takes submissive posture in corner of nest, lands on the nest while resident female is eating a fish, male does not flush interloper, interloper has 2 bloody scratch marks on right top of head, crop not full, has necklace, she attempted to take fish, she remains for awhile, there's some tussling confusion, second female comes and goes, resident female left with fish,
April 22 6002 baygirl 2 N N
Note: pair on nest, female on T perch, she does not have a rt leg silver band so she is a new female as of either last season or this season
April 22 6181 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: Observed switch out on eggs
April 23 8012 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Some CANG activity around the nest , hopefully geese will not take this second platform in the Pine Bay community marsh, a resident feeds the geese there and sadly they now take pine bay 1 platform each season
April 24 6085 baygirl 1 N N
Note: 1 female in T perch of nest, make flew out to river
April 24 6903 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: Both visible, 1 deep
April 24 6227 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: New platform placed in water near this platform , barge left at new platform, male from this nest perched on new platform, female incubating , concerned about overcrowding and fighting should a new pair claim the newly placed platform in this busy waterway!
April 25 6005 baygirl 2 Y N
Note: At 3:15 pm the female was higher in nest, not deep, when I checked later with my boat the male was in his favored tree and female was from nest and perched on guard perch across the creek, nest abandoned , will recheck tmr to confirm inc or fail
April 25 6005 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Both off nest, nesting has failed
April 25 6007 baygirl 1 U N
Note: Saw just 1 on nest rim, apparently the female, very light necklace , calling for fish, not incubating, did not recall a female prior years with such a faded looking necklace, will confirm inc or fail tmr
April 27 6007 baygirl 2 U N
Note: My options on check nest limit what I’m seeing , how can I know if there are eggs as I’m not permitted to approach a nest, however both ospreys on nest today, one was either eating or feeding a nestling, vantage point was not ideal, still need to confirm if nesting failed or perhaps nestlings though it’s quite early…
April 28 6335 baygirl 1 U N incubation
Note: One osprey deep in nest
April 28 6402 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: Male and female switched out incubation duties
April 29 6235 baygirl 2 N N
Note: No signs of incubation, some human disturbance as there’s a float dock that washed up in the marsh last year, it’s very close to the platform, and was not removed so now part of the landscape, it attracts people to stand on it to look at ospreys and they are not settling down, same issue last year, caused very late nesting with female abandoning chick at 4 weeks, it did not survive
April 29 7061 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Both on nest, saw no signs of incubation
April 29 9981 baygirl 2 N N

May 4 6235 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: Finally confirm incubation, pair is disturbed by people too close to nest at this increasingly busy beach
May 4 4463 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: First egg laid approx 5:52 pm this evening , not much nest material has been added since we placed starter nest material, and very sparse nest bowl, I believe male is inexperienced. This could be a wild ride!
May 5 4463 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: Male discovers egg for first time, tries to cover it a few times, eventually attempts to incubate
May 5 4463 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: Make brought first fish of the day at 5:25 this evening, male has not provided much nest material or fish and seems confused by the egg although he has attempted to incubate today
May 5 4463 baygirl 1 1 N incubation
Note: Male has not brought fish , female has been calling, she is incubating this first egg
May 6 4463 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: 10:38 the male brought in small portion of fish and the interloping female that was on nest numerous times, followed the male to nest and remained on nest off and on today, eventually tussling with brooding female, egg was kicked into outer nest material but retrieved at 11:45, egg left unattended for 2 hrs while the pair fought with interloper and perhaps others
May 6 4463 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: Things have quieted down , male has incubated and brought in whole fish at 4 pm
May 6 4463 baygirl 2 1 N incubation
Note: Notes from today, interloping female stood over the egg and postured as if she would brood, but she of course did not, have never before seen a female permitted to do that, I believe the female on nest was so hungry and was eating so she ignored the interloper, male did not discourage, later the female charged the interloper and fighting ensued for hours, I am surprised egg not damaged
May 7 4463 baygirl 2 2 N incubation
Note: Second egg laid approx 1:13 pm , 2 fish deliveries thus far today, male has been incubating, much calmer at nest today, so far…
May 7 8140 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: Incubation observed
May 7 4463 baygirl 2 2 N incubation
Note: Male brought in 2 fish, twice in an hour!, don’t know the species but this male is having a great day
May 7 4463 baygirl 2 2 N incubation
Note: Female incubating and male arrived at 5:23 with 2 fish, female grabbed 1 and he looked down and saw the second so they both ate, appeared to have both in 1 foot but cam view wasn’t clear
May 7 12318 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: one deep, incubating 1 flew to a nearby tree branch, this pair may be from the platform at pine bay #1 that has geese nesting for the second year in a row, residents feed the geese
May 7 8135 baygirl 1 U N incubation
Note: snag nest is substantial, hard to see the birds territory from Bay Reach, where I was viewing today

May 14 6814 baygirl 2 2 1 young laying down
Note: First egg hatched, 2:15 pm
May 14 9798 baygirl 1 Y N
Note: Female abandoned nest this evening at 6:24
May 15 9798 baygirl 2 3 N incubation
Note: Male finally returned and brought partial fish, immediately started brooding, left again at 10:49, hopefully will bring a fish, this could be a polygyny male, his behavior past 2 years is suspect, or he is just a poor provider
May 16 7797 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: 1 deep in nest, other on nearby snag favored perch
May 16 6784 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: Continuing incubation ,
May 16 6014 baygirl 0 N N

Note: Female deep, male with fish in pine tree
May 16 6814 baygirl 1 2 2 incubation, young laying down
Note: Second nestling is pipping and almost out just before cam turned to sunset, sunset view is too long, mush is missed at the nest
May 16 9798 baygirl 2 2 N incubation
Note: Observing the nest cam though out the day, male is mostly absent, visited once yesterday, brought partial fish , incubated 17 min and left, male returned today around noon, brought partial fish, incubated for short period turn left to return again around 5 but no fish, he will incubate when at nest, possibly a polygyny male similar behavior last season, eggs are often unattended by female or left by female when she fishes forherself, she gets bunkers within minutes of leaving the nest
May 16 8109 baygirl 1 U N incubation
Note: One deep in nest today
May 17 9798 baygirl 2 3 N incubation

May 17 8052 baygirl 0 N N

May 17 6929 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: This pair may be same pair that’s floated around snags here and at Betheny Nature Center but this is a different snag nest, it’s on the pond instead of canal way west, I’ll use both names so not to confuse , male perches in tree to west of nest dead tree, tree has a ribbon around it so hopefully not cut anytime soon
May 17 6402 baygirl 2 U N incubation

Note: No ospreys today, saw 1 in April but no nest material on platform, it is In the shadow of the Bald eagles nest
May 18 9798 baygirl 1 3 N
Note: Female did not incubate again overnight, incubation is very sporadic with eggs left Unattended often, male visits sporadically , not providing adequate fish so female is fishing and eggs are usually exposed, crow was on nest yesterday , red winged blackbirds attacked otherwise it would have gotten an egg again like last season, quite a saga at this nest
May 19 7126 baygirl 2 1 2 young laying down
Note: First hatch approx 23:30 5-18, second hatch approx 6:10 this morning , nice to have so close in age, interesting nesting to observe hatch dates as first egg was delayed inc plus was exposed to rain and was under plastic for one night
May 19 9486 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Hope did not return this year, a new female has been visiting the nest, Beaumont has copulated with her but no serious nest building and bonding has occurred as of today , sad to not see the gorgeous dark Hope but she fledged 2 young in 2024 and both were dark females just like her, maybe we will see them next year

May 31 6039 baygirl 2 U N incubation
Note: No longer seeing feeding behavior, female off nest often, both adults perching on marsh posts, female trying to use plastic in nest as nest bowl material, possibility the high amount of plastic brought to nest from the Cedar Landing construction has swamped eggs and nestlings, female is now back to intermittent incubation so I believe nesting has failed. I observe this nest by unobstructed views from my home. The trash in nest issue is sad to see, the community needs to clear the marsh of their trash!
May 31 9842 baygirl 1 N U

Note: Both remain at nest site despite no babies, he continues to bring her the occasional fish and they spend quite a bit of time on their new marsh perches and new nest location. It’s a good thing the platform was moved as there’s now lights on the dock, many solar lights. Not a great thing for marsh birds etc, and there’s more activity on the dock due to new residents. Why so many solar lights on a dock rarely used at night? It’s what city people do.

Note: Again this evening I observed the female bring in a small fish or portion of fish to the 2 chicks, they were laying down, 1 got up immediately and the second took its time to get in on the feeding. Have not seen the male on my visits to the nest. This is the difference between watching nest cams and going out in the field to observe a species in its surrounding territory. Timing can affect what we see, but also we see the interactions of the birds with their mates, other species, interlopers, in other words a full picture of the pairs nesting dynamic.

Note: One chick that has not fledged is on nest being fed by ad female, the other that fledged has turned up on the Cliffs #1 platform nearby and in sight of this platform, Cliffs #1 had 2 fledglings, now there are 3, more competition at that nest, less competition here. It is not uncommon for fledglings in a colony to end up on a different nest and never return to their natal nest. Something you can not observe on nest cams.

Female may take short trip away and return prior to her earlier migration , likely soon or in August. Generally males in the watershed tend to stay deep into Sept with a few remaining into October.

Note: Interloper from Quillens Pt #85 nest remains with the 2 natal fledglings. I’m not sure which might be that one, just a large female fledgling has been flying all around rhe nest area, skimming talons, play fishing, I expect she will catch a fish soon, 2 were eating as I passed in my boat, adult male was on his marsh perch with an entire fish waiting to deliver it, the best nesting pair to accept an extra fledgling!

Eggs may not be viable. Very late for hatchlings. Need more observation.

Note: One fledgling stuck in the water, unable to fly, other 2 coming and going to the nest. Fished waterlogged one out and put up in nest, the other smaller fledgling flew to nest and repeatedly attacked it, eventually it flew to the near by Cliffs isle duckblind and perched with the large female fledgling, I’m thinking the nest bully may be from 85, but I’m guessing, the 2 at duckblind get along. I don’t know if the small thin waterlogged bird will survive. Have only seen the adult male the past few days. Female probably left after the third arrived, she was staying away from the nest to eat and preen.
August 2 6011 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: Remaining chick in nest with adult, not sure if it has fledged
August 3 6239 baygirl 1 N 4 feeding, young standing
Note: Notes from the field: 2 interlopers on the nest with 2 chicks that are not fledge age. Interlopers are taking the fish drops from the male, I am hoping the female is still here to feed the 2 young, they will not be able to compete with older fledglings from nearby nests
August 3 7812 baygirl 0 N 2 young standing
Note: Both young in nest, they look scrawny, have not observed 2 adults recently , especially the male seemed absent, female was delivering and feeding
August 3 7793 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Adult male chased the extra fledgling that belongs at 85 that was bullied off Cliffs 1, the fledgling dove into the marsh into a pond, second time grounded in 2 days, it’s too weak to fly adequately, we retrieved it and took it to Tristate bird rescue as it is emaciated. , much drama at the marsh islands

Note: Female in nest feeding chick, male on marsh guard perch, female turn took remainder of fish to her snag to eat, she may be trying to entice fledging
August 4 6011 baygirl 1 N 1
Note: Chick fledged , landed on a deck railing and fortunately it stayed on the railing and did not get trapped in the deck, a common occurrence, flew back to nest at noon

Note: No nest in 2025
August 5 6108 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Fledgling, looking darker, on nest rim
August 5 6239 baygirl 1 N 2 young standing
Note: Apparently an interloper has joined the nest, one natal chick has fledged and there’s one smaller chick on nest that may not be eatting due to aggressiveness of the older flying birds, it is hunched and sick looking , only the adult male is present dropping fish so the little one is not able to compete , female would be helpful but has not been seen
August 6 6001 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Chick has fledged, flying around nest platform, strong landing !

August 7 6227 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Chick has fledged and is on the nearby Channel marker 9 platform this morning. I have not seen those ospreys in a few weeks so hopefully there won’t be any aggression towards it AND it gets to its natal nest safely today

Note: 1 osprey on marker
August 7 4464 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Did not see nesting behavior this season
August 7 6053 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Nesting failed early this season, adults still at nest territory, dropping nest material on lighthouse roof , possibly a frustration nest
August 7 4463 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male flew around with fish, was going to land on nest but then took fish to an area directly behind the platform, other side of woods line, landed on a structure near the pharma plant, have seen him go there before but the structure is obscured by trees
August 7 6239 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: The smaller chick on nest, not 100% it’s fledged, it has been in a hunched posture with head low past 2 times I have seen it. Today is the first time no other ospreys at the nest territory, I’m not certain it is getting fed.
August 7 4463 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male stopped by to check on his real estate
August 7 6039 baygirl 1 N N
Note: I believe the female has left, adult male alone today, ate his dinner fish on the nest, she didn’t arrive to finish it, and he was on their favored sunset tree all alone. It was wonderful that they stayed together all season even after their nesting failed
August 8 8672 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Fledgling alone much of the time, adult female has migrated prior to fledge, adult male mostly, second fledgling landed on nest , left after about 30 minutes
August 8 6039 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Male tussling with an interloping male who tried to take his nest
August 9 4463 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male arrived to nest this morning and fussed with some nest material, viewed by nest cam, not in person today , stayed short period of time
August 9 6039 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male on nest as we pass on our boat
August 9 6559 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male with fish on his guard perch, no young seen
August 9 6011 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Single remaining fledgling alone in the nest, no adult present just before dark
August 9 6559 baygirl 0 N N
Note: No fledglings no adult male, where are the young
August 9 6001 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Fledgling was on his second full day of flying, was on the nest 8-8 am, then was gone, adult male had a fish for him and waited 2 hrs yesterday early evening but the chick has not returned, either injured nearby or simply gone, today the male is on his guard perch a number of times but no chick to tend to, sad the fledgling is gone so soon
August 9 6239 baygirl 0 N N
Note: No ospreys seen all day, this does not seem right as the chicks have only been flying 3-4 days, this has been the situation at a number of nearby nests. Chicks fledge and quickly disappear, adult females leaving before chicks have fledged, adult males mostly absent except for portion of a fish drop now and then. A very rough season
August 9 6227 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Fledgling has moved over to the newly paved non permitted platform where the make perches, observed self feeding earlier today
August 9 6181 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Observed self feeding earlier today, have not seen female in a few days, chick is not yet at fledge age, is alone at nest, mostly laying deep in nest, assuming just the male is dropping an occasional fish
August 10 6181 baygirl 0 N 1 young laying down
Note: Chick alone, laying deep in nest, not seeing any adults or chick eating and I can observe from my house though it’s far
August 10 6044 baygirl 1 N 1 feeding, young standing
Note: Fledgling mantling over a fish that adult female brought, so rare to see females at this point in the 25 season
August 10 8238 baygirl 0 N U young standing

August 10 6335 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: Adult in tree with fish, fledgling calling from nest
August 10 7812 baygirl 0 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: 2 fledge on nest, 1 eating 1 calling for fish
August 10 6298 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Interloping fledgling on nest while adult was eating on corner perch , fledge flew when adult did not share
August 10 6039 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Have not seen male today
August 11 6181 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Alerted that the Chick was on the ground, about 200’ from nest, along a marshy trail that resident/dogs use to go the the creek beach , chick can not fly, nest is too high to put it back without ladder and HOA permission so I easily captured it and will take to Tristate Bird Rescue for assessment , uncertain the adult male is present and providing fish for this late developing chick , no adult female seen for at least 3-4 days
August 11 6039 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Male gone today, not seen since Saturday, 8-9
August 12 6929 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: Adult female on dead branch of tree nest, chick looks full grown , in nest fluffing wings and jumping, calling for fish, I expect fledge has occurred or will very soon , nice to see a female at a nest
August 12 6011 baygirl 2 N 1 young standing
Note: Fledgling on nest with adult female, adult male on his marsh perch
August 12 6181 baygirl 0 N N
Note: Have observed the nest multiple times today, see no adults, the marsh perch that the male used last season is gone, that was helpful in keeping the male near and visible. At this point I have no way to know if the adult male would tend to the chick if returned to the nest
August 12 6001 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male at marsh perch until sunset then moved to his favored back tree line snag
August 13 6001 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male with fish on perch
August 13 6001 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male finished fish on marsh perch
August 13 6039 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male returned to his pond perch
August 14 6227 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Was called by observer who saw chick jump or fly into the water, was flailing and disappeared before they got their boat out to save it, I searched the nearby marsh and did not see it, was a week flighted so not sure it had strength to get itself in the air
August 15 6227 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Searched by boat, all marsh edges in the area, unable to see into the new deep and illegally placed platform where the fledgling has been perching after fledgling, and can not see into the deep marsh grasses, I assume it has died like many others
August 16 6227 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: Found the fledgling, returned to nest, then saw where it hangs out, on top of last power line on the road !
August 16 8095 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Fledgling in nest, 2 kayakers very close, chick was stress calling
August 16 8373 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: Fledgling on snag but nest has disintegrated, male on nearby tree with fish, saw fledgling dive into the shallows and get a small fish
August 16 6181 baygirl 2 N N
August 16 6001 baygirl 2 N N
Note: Extra osprey at nest, then flew to back tree snag , then another joined the single at the nest, 3 adults? Not certain what was going on
August 17 12242 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no longer seeing activity
August 17 7992 baygirl 0 N N
Note: The platform location is no longer safe for ospreys as boaters regularly pull their boats directly onto the beach, and dogs are running here too
August 17 7995 baygirl 0 N N
Note: nest has disentegrated, have not seen acitivty this season
August 17 7996 baygirl 0 N N
Note: family not at nest today
August 17 7997 baygirl 0 N N
Note: no activity today
August 19 6227 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: Fledgling flying from tree to tree, calling for fish in rain storm , likely a very hungry bird as the weather has been very tough for adults to fish for. 2 days with more bad weather to come
August 20 11256 baygirl 1 N N
Note: Adult male on his favored pole, down the entrance road
August 20 8146 baygirl 0 N N
