Date Watcher Adults Eggs Young Observations Photo Edit
March 8 baygirl 0 N N
Note: high winds last week damaged nesting platform, sides broken or missing, no bottom to nest box, will not be safe for nesting this season. the pair fledged 2 young in 2024.
June 28 baygirl 1 N 1 young standing
Note: Chick appears to be approx 3 weeks old, nest built up around the broken bottom of nest box
July 11 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: Female fed both larger chicks, then male brought another fish, female feeding again, great to see fish deliveries
July 19 baygirl 1 N 2 young laying down
Note: Adult female and 2 larger chicks laying in broken platform
July 21 baygirl 1 N 1 young laying down
Note: Only saw 1 chick lying gown, adult flew off nest and that one laid flat, possible the second was there just unable to see it this evening
July 22 baygirl 1 N 2 feeding, young standing
July 28 baygirl 2 N 2 feeding, young standing
Note: Male on nearby tree, female on nest, 2 large chicks tussling over a fish
August 3 baygirl 1 N 4 feeding, young standing
Note: Notes from the field: 2 interlopers on the nest with 2 chicks that are not fledge age. Interlopers are taking the fish drops from the male, I am hoping the female is still here to feed the 2 young, they will not be able to compete with older fledglings from nearby nests
August 5 baygirl 1 N 2 young standing
Note: Apparently an interloper has joined the nest, one natal chick has fledged and there’s one smaller chick on nest that may not be eatting due to aggressiveness of the older flying birds, it is hunched and sick looking , only the adult male is present dropping fish so the little one is not able to compete , female would be helpful but has not been seen
August 7 baygirl 0 N 1 young standing
Note: The smaller chick on nest, not 100% it’s fledged, it has been in a hunched posture with head low past 2 times I have seen it. Today is the first time no other ospreys at the nest territory, I’m not certain it is getting fed.
August 9 baygirl 0 N N
Note: No ospreys seen all day, this does not seem right as the chicks have only been flying 3-4 days, this has been the situation at a number of nearby nests. Chicks fledge and quickly disappear, adult females leaving before chicks have fledged, adult males mostly absent except for portion of a fish drop now and then. A very rough season
