May 6 | 9265 | ospreychick | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | The last 2 times I've checked this nest I've seen more than 2 ospreys around it. Today I observed one bird on the nest so I THINK she's incubating but then she flew off and she was chirping and chasing other birds. There were 3 others flying around. I think the male who goes with the nest is missing a tail feather so he is identifiable. He was chasing birds today and I saw him last time. The superintendent of the OWD was there and told me that have frequently seen and heard 4 birds. There might be another nest on the property but the other pair is making the OWD nesters very nervous!

July 22 | 7755 | ospreychick | 1 | N | N
Note: | I went under this nest today because I hadn't noticed any activity. As I approached, one adult flew out of the trees and chirped at me and flew away. I've included a pic of the nest overgrown with weeds. The trees have grown up around it making it susceptible. Not sure why the nest failed but it could have something to do with no room for the chicks, the food, etc. I have been observing this nest since 2009 and it has been successful every year until now. So sad.
July 22 | 7743 | ospreychick | 1 | N | 2 | young standing
Note: | I walked by the nest and there was an adult and 2 chicks standing in nest. Later when I circled back, 2 chicks were out of the nest perched on telephones near the nest. While I was photographing one of them, one of the SB adults came close to me overhead and was clicking. Both chicks seem unafraid of me. Originally I thought there were 3 chicks but now I think there are only 2.

August 5 | 7754 | ospreychick | 1 | N | N
Note: | Susan Mann's brother Keith's drone flew over the nest and took a picture of an empty nest. While the drone was flying over, there was an adult perched in a tree across the road from the nest but he didn't even chirp at the drone or at me when I walked under the nest. The next morning Susan & I were walking under the nest. There was a bird in the nest and he chirped loudly at us!
August 5 | 7755 | ospreychick | 1 | N | N
Note: | Susan Mann's brother Keith flew his drone over the nest. I've attached a picture. The trees have now grown up above the nest, probably dropping seeds into the nest since it's full of weeds. The nest was empty. As at the Bay Pointe nest, one of the adults was in a nearby tree while the drone was flying over but he didn't chirp. I continue to see one adult hanging around near the nest. |
