July 12 | CyclistBarb | 1 | N | N
Note: | 2:55 - 3:10 p.m. I watched from route 29 rather than going up the farm road to the tower. It is now very hot, in the 80s, the adult (probably the female) appeared to be shading chick(s) with her wings somewhat opened. I couldn't see any chicks and did not stay very long.
August 2 | CyclistBarb | 2 | N | 1 | young standing
Note: | 9:50 - 10:30 a.m. I observed from the shoulder of route 29, but the nest and occupants were backlit so it was difficult to tell the adults from the large chick. One of the adults flew off while I watched. That adult proved to be the male. I moved to the roller rink driveway. Although it is farther away, through my scope with good light, I could tell the adult female and one chick were still on the nest. The chick was almost the same size as its mother. In the photo the chick is preening, the adult female is perched on the post. |
