May 27 Butch 1 U N incubation
June 15 Wren7 1 N N
Note: Female hovering over nest in defensive posture, wings out in covering pose, another osprey flew in, talons out, and attacked the osprey. Female left the nest and circled a while, as did the other osprey. 2 others circling at a distance. Female returned, similar behavior, another attempted attack, another flight away. Female never returned to nest, no sign of male, no sign of any young!
June 15 Wren7 1 N N
Note: Today, the female was on the side of the nest calling loudly, seemingly very agitated, spreading her wings wide and looking up as another osprey dove at her, talons extended towards her. She jumped off the nest and they chased each other, then she circled nearby calling loudly and stayed off the nest for 5 minutes or so. She eventually came back to the nest and got in the same protective posture, all the while making loud, rapid cries. The other osprey dove down AGAIN, talons outstretched and chased the bird off the nest. After 10 minutes, the female still hadn't come back. I stopped at the nest later in the day and there was still no sign of an adult at the nest.
June 19 Wren7 1 N N
Note: Adult male sitting on side of nest calling, one or more osprey nearby calling but no others came to the nest. Male picked up twig in the nest and moved it slightly, maybe indicating he was building the nest and looking for a mate? He flew off after a while and didn't return.
June 21 Butch 1 N U
Note: I had observerd at least one chick in this nest on a previous visit.
