| Note: | Male, who brought many fish earlier in the season, is no longer. He is gone for long periods. He is a young, good, strong hunter, but seems to be having difficulty finding fish. I'm very concerned about the nestlings. | ||||||
| May 8 | Pianka | 2 | 1 | 2 | |||
| Note: | Little to no feeding because little to no fish. I hope the male is able to find some fish, as this won't last long. | ||||||
| May 9 | 2 | 1 | 1 | incubation, young standing | Add Photo | Edit | |
| Note: | One chick did not make it. Chick was barely breathing at 6:30 this morning, and respiration appeared to have stopped by 8am. It's after 10am and no food so far this morning. Last evening a few fish had been brought in and both were fed. I believe it was just too little, too late. | ||||||
| May 9 | Pianka | 1 | N | N | |||
| Note: | At approx 4:15 pm, the female had to try to get food, because again, there had been none. Early in the season, the male brought fish constantly, enough that sometimes she'd turn them down. Now, nothing. Within 20 min of her leaving, a crow picked up the live chick, returned for the dead chick that had starved to death earlier that morning, then returned to peck into the remaining egg and remove that chick. The female returned to an empty nest. | ||||||
