February 10 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N
Note: | Jean F reports: So far no activity sighted near the next. Although there are increased sightings of osprey in the area no activity on or near this nest.
March 4 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N
Note: | Jean F reports: First sighting of an Osprey at the nest today!! Looked like the male. I heard but did not see another Osprey in the area.
March 21 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N
Note: | Jean F reports: Although I've seen increased osprey activity in the Kingston Cove neighborhood - not much going on at my nest. Haven't seen the osprey near the nest or in the tree. No signs of a second arrival yet. Fingers crossed?
April 23 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N
Note: | Jean F reports: Unless you happened to have seen any activity around my nest I’m going to declare it non active. I stop by a few times a week to wait and observe. Nothing. Bummer. Oh well - next year
May 1 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N
Note: | Joanne V reports: swung by this nest today. I immediately heard chirping coming from the direction of the nest. It had initially been thought this nest was abandoned, but think that might have been premature. While no osprey were visible in the nest, it is very deep and very high and tough to get close. There may be incubation occurring. I could not find a way to delete the nest failure on this page. Jean F, the assigned monitor, will continue to check the nest for any progress and will update accordingly.
May 21 | HHI Osprey Watch | 2 | N | 1 | young standing
Note: | Joanne V reports: went by this nest today and there was a lot of activity. This nest should not have been declared “failed.” I immediately heard soft chirping coming from the nest. Shortly thereafter, an osprey (mama?) flew into the nest. She sat for quite a while, often appearing to be looking down at something (a chick?) in the nest. Then papa flew in and stayed for about 5 minutes before leaving. The pic is when both adults were in the nest together.
May 21 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | 1 | young standing
Note: | Joanne V reports: After the initial observation, I took a few more pics and expanded them to determine if a chick was visible. The red circle marks what I believe is a chick. Itvwoukd be at least 7-10 days old.
June 3 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N
Note: | Jean F reports seeing an adult osprey perched on the edge of the nest. The chick is not visible. NOTE: this nest is especially challenging to view. It is on private property nested high in the pine tree which is a good distance from where observations can take place. It is still assumed that a hatching has occurred. Continued monitoring will be important. .
June 9 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N
Note: | Joanne V reports: swung by this nest briefly this afternoon. An adult osprey popped up with wings extended and then settled into a sitting position. There is a large branch that cuts through the center of the viewing area for this nest so it is tough to see what is happening on the other side. It is still assumed that a hatchling is in the nest, but it was not visible today.
June 22 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | 1
Note: | Jean F reports: lots of action on the nest over the past 3-4 days. Lots of calling and I see one of the adults almost continuously on or near the nest - there has to be at least one chick up there!!
June 24 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | 2 | young standing
Note: | Joanne V reports: one adult and 2 chicks in the nest this morning. I was able to get a fairly clear photo of all 3.
July 14 | HHI Osprey Watch | 2 | N | 2 | young standing
Note: | Jean F reports: I check this nest everyday. The chicks are almost as big as the parents. They are often on the edge of the nest, moving and around and flapping wings. NOTE: These chicks should be fledging rather soon.
July 15 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N
Note: | Joanne V reports: Quick visit to this nest. Mother was seen on a branch in the nesting tree, but neither of the 2 chicks were visible. It is not known if they were deep in the nest or if they have fledged, but more than likely they were in the nest while mom looked over them. Dad was not seen. Photo is of mom.
July 19 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | 2
Note: | Jean F reports: Today, and yesterday, I observed one of the chicks sitting on a limb above the nest. While I couldn’t see the eyes the mottled feather pattern was easy to see. Today, I could see the second chick in the nest. I do believe this first chick fledged Wed or Thursday or this week.
August 2 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N
Note: | Confirming as of this morning (8-2)I have not seen any activity on or near the nest for two days. It appears the second of the checks has headed out! |
