Note: | I haven't been keeping up with my sightings on this website this year. But I can say that I've seen 2 adults on or near the nest throughout the season. Except today, on my way home from work, there was a dead osprey laying on the bridge on the other side of the span. I am heartbroken. The traffic on the bridge is so heavy and fast in the evenings, and there really isn't anywhere to safely pull over, let alone get out. I wish I could have done something. | ||||||

Note: | Hurrah! The nesting pair has been sighted! Just the 2 of them, chilling on the nest! ? Now, for all I know, there may be eggs. But the nest is just too high to see, plus I'm driving under it at 45 MPH. This makes me so happy! The poor osprey that died on the other side of the bridge is still there - I pass them every day on my way home. The bridge makes it hard for nature's clean-up crew to take care of the remains, and obviously, VDOT doesn't clean debris off of it on a regular basis. But seeing the adult pair sitting together on this nest reminds me that the next generation is on its way ? |
