Note: | 25 Feb 27 Female arrives, nest still intact from ’24; not much building to do; often flies and stays away 25 March 1 Male arrives; maybe known mate, maybe not; visibly smaller: neither stay on nest much. 25 March 8 Female regularly on nest now; male often flies over with fish, attempts mating. 25 March 15 Female and male on nest longer periods now. Both bring sticks to augment substantial nest. Male regularly attempts mating, but also stays with female without mating. Several nest fly-by’s by male and also other ospreys with fish as if displaying. Multiple aerial maneuvers with other osprey (siblings?); dive-bombing seems more playful than violent. Often fishing in Bodahl Pond. Other osprey often circling over Bodahl and Spriggs Ponds. 25 April 3 Difficult to tell male from female and intruders from nesters: they seem to switch places. Female lacks obvious dark bib (young?); vocalizes often, mostly screeching. Could this female be Amelia who screeched as a fledgling in 2020? Both male and female osprey respond to whistling with chirps, snaking, head turning; sometimes venture onto branches near deck with people talking, unafraid. Flying low over house much more than in the past. Thinking this is a new pair. |
