Date Watcher Adults Eggs Young Observations Photo Edit
January 20 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Sue F reports: It was late (getting dark) when I went to observe. It was hard to see whether there was much left of the nest. Definitively no ospreys yet.
February 11 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Sue F reports: this is a pretty messy nest. Saw no ospreys.
February 16 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports the female was sitting on the nest.
March 2 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: Osprey standing on the edge of the nest. Flew off and I could not tell the sex
March 10 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: Female osprey sitting on the nest.
March 12 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: Female osprey sitting on the nest.
March 17 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Sue F reports: 3/15 Did not see an osprey near or on the nest. 3/17 Did not see an osprey near or on the nest.
April 1 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: 3/30 Did not see an osprey on or near the nest. I cannot see in the nest however so it’s possible the female is there. 4/1 Female in the nest, close enough to the edge that I can see her. She actually defecated over the edge. Hard to miss that. Hahaha!
April 7 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Sue F reports: 4/6 I didn’t see any ospreys but can’t see into the nest. I stayed for about 15 minutes 4/7 I didn’t see any ospreys but again I can’t see into the nest.
April 12 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N incubation
Note: Wendy D reports: On April 12th I observed the adult in the nest who rose a bit and then hunkered down, confirming incubation. NOTE: We are going to date the start of incubation April 1st when it was first reported that she was down on the side of the nest and defecated over the edge.
April 24 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N incubation
Note: Wendy D reports: April 24 - Again, I just saw the tip of a tail in the nest.
May 3 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N incubation
Note: Wendy D reports: May 3 - can clearly see just the white top of an adult's head. It appears horizontal and the tail feathers from previous visits would make sense with this position.
May 14 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N
Note: Wendy D reports: May 14 - An adult is upright on the nest and appears to be eating. I suppose it could be feeding, but it looked more like it was eating.
May 28 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N 1
Note: Wendy D reports: May 28 - Adult standing on the side of the nest, looking into it. The adult looks quite thin and a bit unkempt. This suggests the egg(s) hatched between May 3rd and May 14th. I will be by again this Sunday. NOTE: With our estimated incubation of April 1, this time frame appears accurate for hatching. We will record hatching as the 8th, which is the midpoint.
