HHI Osprey Watch
Description
This nest is located in a live pine tree in the back yard of 8 Fiddlers Way in Hilton Head Plantation. While it is fairly close to another nest, it is a separate nest since both are active this season. The monitors have named the pair Ruby and Rozzie. NOTE: This nest was first reported to the project in Mid-June 2026, so we are missing a lot of data. For the 2026 season, we will add the limited info we have. In 2027, this nest will be monitored throughout the season.

| Note: | This is the first update for this newly reported nest. The only info we have as of 6/23/26 is the following: Both adults are around the nest. No nestlings seen and it is unknown if there were eggs, incubation, or hatching. No report of a flat-backed adult in the nest incubating. At this point, it is too late for eggs to be laid, and if eggs were laid, hatching probably has happened since the report indicates that no adult is sitting on the nest full time. What we have most likely is a nestling down in the nest. Again, we have very little info on this nest because it was just reported to the project. We will do the best we can this season. | Note: | Marc M reports: 6/26/27 at 7:15 PM I got a good look at one of our osprey. He was sitting in the nest and adjusting the twigs/branches. When he got up I got a good view of the chest and saw no brown Necklace feathers. I’m assuming that is the male. He then flew away, circled around and then perched on a branch above the nest. NOTE: Since this nest was newly reported to the project, we are unsure if there are young. | ||||||

| Note: | Marc M reports: The last 10 days saw very little activity. We only saw one Osprey at a time and sometimes not for a day or two. This morning however Rozzie and Ruby were both there. One was on the nest. Flying out and back with branches to reinforce the nest. The other sat perched on a branch in the tree next to the tree with the nest. This observation was today 7/12/26 between 8-9AM. NOTE: This was a very late nest reported to the HHI OW Project. Therefore, we have no data on the adult arrival, incubation, hatching etc. The attached image, when enhanced, does seem to be an adult male with yellow(?) eyes, dark, non scalloped back feathers and clear chest. What can be said is that there is no incubation ongoing (all of the other nests in the project hatched weeks ago) and we can not tell if there were fledglings. I cannot tell from the other images what the gender is or if there are juveniles. A movie clip of an osprey flying in looked like either a male with a clear chest or a juvenile. Based on lack of data, this nest is being closed out for the season. we hope that this nest can be carefully monitored beginning next winter so that we can record the dates needed to accurately track this nest. | ||||||
