Description

This nest has been in the tree for several years, but was only reported to the project in April 2026. It is in a live pine tree by the 5th tee on Oyster Reef Golf Course in Hilton Head Plantation. While the nest cannot be seen from the street, it is visible via a nearby public area. The best public access is to use the public walkway located on High Bluff Road that takes you behind houses like #3 Sycamore Lane. Since it is on a golf course, unless you are playing the course, you can only access the nest from the golf course before 7AM or after 7PM.

April 14 HHI Osprey Watch 2 Y N incubation
Note: This is an initial summary of the newly reported nest on Oyster Reef Golf. We do not have data on the arrival of the pair, nor the start of incubation. However, it has been reported that based on weekend activity and noise level, incubation may be underway. Once a monitor is found for the nest, we will have better updates to share. The data posted that there are 2 adults and incubation is underway is based on our best guess with the information we have at this point. A neighbor of the nest believes it has fledged young the past 2 or maybe 3 years. Again, we have no data to confirm this.

Note: An additional image of this newly reported nest has been added. The data is simply repeating the previous update.

Note: Joanne V. took another photo of this nest. While she could not tell if incubation was happening, it is possible based on the previous reports.

Note: Mary K reports: I went to view this nest yesterday, but did not observe any activity in or near the nest.
April 27 HHI Osprey Watch 0 U N
Note: Mary K reports: I went by the nest today with my husband. We did not see any osprey but did hear them.

Note: Alan B reports: I went to have a look at this nest this morning. The tree with the nest is on a cart path and there were golfers out, so I couldn’t get many different angles to look from, so I’ll have to go back there either before 7 AM or after 7 PM. I did not see any adults or other activities at the nest during the time I was there. Note: While there was a report from a neighbor of hearing "babies in the nest", 3 different observers are in agreement that there are no young yet. We are only assuming incubation is underway and that the Mom is down so far she isn't visible.

Note: Sandy P reports: No activity seen in nest. Did see an Osprey flying around the area.

Note: Sandy P reports: I sent photos so you can see how difficult it is to see this nest with the tree limbs . I did see the male flying into the nest but couldn’t tell if he had a fish or not. There was some chattering but I could not see their heads . I think this is a very deep nest. NOTE: It is probable that incubation is ongoing but the nest is very difficult to monitor. The chattering might have been Mom way down in this hard to view nest.
June 2 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N
Note: Sandy P reports: Nest 12785- Monday 6/2- 4 pm. Male flew into nest and out and landed on a tree above where I was standing. I could not see if he had a fish and I could not see him when he flew into the nest. The nest must be very deep. There was no activity and no noise when he flew into the nest and when he left ..I could not see the female. NOTE: We are assuming incubation is continuing. If Dad flew into the nest it would suggest that Mom is down in the nest. It is difficult to see the nest and it is possible there has been hatching, but we will wait to confirm.

Note: Sandy P reports: First time I have seen the female in this nest. Looking out and standing up to stretch her wings. She did some chattering but not a lot. Hopefully the eggs have hatched and she needed to move around and stretch a little. I was happy to finally see her. NOTE: While hatching may have occurred, we will wait for confirmation before adding this fact.
