February 1 | 12520 | Marina | 0 | N | N
Note: | A group of eagles that were pushed out of their nesting area by clear cutting associated with a new housing development appear to have moved into this nest. They have been occupying the tree all winter and have been photographed sitting in the nest, but there is no indication they are on eggs.
March 10 | 12520 | Marina | 1 | N | N
Note: | Found an adult osprey dead on the beach near this nest. Unclear if this is an adult returning to this nest or just a bird passing through. Given the eagle activity in this nest over the winter it's possible this was the owner returning and was killed trying to reclaim the nest.
April 20 | 12519 | Marina | 2 | N | N
Note: | Nest building activity.
April 26 | 12520 | Marina | 2 | N | N
Note: | After being pushed out of the original nesting site have been watching to adult birds build a nest on the opposite side of the fairway from the original tree. On inspection of the photos it is two females building the nest. Gives more credibility to the idea that the male was the one killed on the beach back in March.
May 1 | 12519 | Marina | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | The female is clearly in the nest on eggs but there is heavy equipment construction on the shore directly adjacent to the pilings with the nest. Additionally, a construction barge is parked near the pilings and is banging up against it. The photos I took of the female are heartbreaking - she looks terrified but is standing her ground on those eggs.
June 8 | 9825 | Marina | 2 | U | 3 | incubation, young standing
Note: | One chick significantly smaller than the other two and fighting witnessed between the chicks in the nest. Dad was near by but did not have any fish.
June 15 | 12519 | Marina | 0 | N | N
Note: | Nest appears to have been abandoned before the eggs hatched. No doubt due to the construction activity.
July 3 | 6922 | Marina | 2 | U | 2 | incubation, young standing
Note: | Watched the nest for roughly 30 minutes - Dad did not have food nor did he bring any even though the chicks were calling.
July 9 | 12521 | Marina | 2 | U | 1 | incubation, young standing
Note: | The homeowner indicated there had been 2 chicks in the next unit just a few days ago. She said the mom was shielding them from the heat and high temps but rarely saw dad come with any food. Dad was in the area while I was there but had no fish. I won't have regular access to this nest to do follow ups but hopefully someone in the area can. The homeowner indicated this nest has been active every year for several years.
July 12 | 9825 | Marina | 2 | U | 2 | incubation, young standing
Note: | No sign of the smaller third chick in this nest. The two remaining look strong and healthy and are flapping wings. Mom and Dad were nearby but did not have fish. I watched for almost an hour and no signs of feeding them.
July 15 | 7027 | Marina | 0 | N | N | ||
Note: | The pilings that supported this nest collapsed. There is no longer activity at this location. |
