April 21 | 12101 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | I am not convinced there are eggs yet, but I did see the female in the nest possibly incubating. There were 4-5 osprey flying around this sports field, and one had a fish in his talons but flew away. It could have been headed over to the nearby 2628 West Shore Rd nest. Lots of vocalizations.
April 21 | 12089 | Kathy | 1 | N | N
Note: | New light fixtures were put in this year, so the old nest is gone. Interestingly, the ospreys built their new nest on a light pole adjacent to where it was last year. It is not quite as robust of a nest as last year, so we'll see if they keep adding sticks to it. I saw one female on the nest, but it is not clear if she is incubating yet as I have seen her absent from the nest on other days last week as well. One adult male perched on a light post across the softball field.
April 21 | 12090 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | New sports lights were put in this year, so last year's nest was removed. There is a new nest in the same exact location. (Of concern is that there is a large sharp metal protrusion coming straight up out of the light fixture, which the nest is on! I hope the babies do not get impaled when they are learning how to fly later in the season!) I saw a Female osprey in this nest, and a male osprey perched across field on other light pole preening. ANOTHER NOTE: I saw another male osprey on the distal soccer field trying to build a new nest. Will have to check that one out!
April 21 | 12102 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | I saw 2-4 adult ospreys flying around the vicinity of this nest, but none of them flew to her while I was observing. I saw one adult osprey with fish in talons that flew right past us. (of note, previous week I saw both male and female osprey on this nest platform).
April 21 | 12087 | Kathy | 1 | N | N
Note: | Adult osprey sitting on a very flabby looking nest (consisting of a few sticks from what I can see with binoculars from the parking lot). I cannot be sure if it is female or male. I saw 4-5 ospreys flying around in the air over the nest and over the school. I saw one with a fish in its talons who I thought was going to bring it to this nest, but he didn't. He flew away.
April 21 | 12086 | Kathy | 0 | N | N
Note: | I saw one adult male perched on the lower part of the cell phone tower. I see the nest on top of the tower, but the female is not visible at this time. She may be out flying around? Vocalizations heard, so she is nearby.
April 21 | 12094 | Kathy | 0 | N | N
Note: | There were new sports lights put up this year, so the nest from last year is completely gone. However, I do see a new nest (in progress) in the same exact location that is currently empty. My guess is that both male and female are flying around working on building up the nest. Since there is a second nest at this site, there were several osprey flying around. There was 1 adult flying around field; 1 adult perched across field on other sports light structure; 1 adult flying over towards water.
April 21 | 12204 | Kathy | 1 | N | N
Note: | There were new sports lights put up this year, so the nest from last year is completely gone. However, I do see a new nest (in progress) in the same exact location as previous year. There is one adult sitting in that nest. I did see one adult male perched across the field on another light post. My guess is that there is not yet an egg, as the nest seems pretty flat and not built up yet. But I am not sure! Since there is a second nest at this site, there were 2-3 other osprey flying around.
April 22 | 12098 | Kathy | 1 | N | N
Note: | I am not planning on following this nest, but if no one else does, I will add data from time to time. I drove by the nest on 95 going South and saw one adult sitting perched next to the nest. I could not see if a female was sitting down on eggs or not.
April 28 | 12090 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female in nest incubating presumably, male was perched off to side on a different light pole. Vocalizations heard. Then, he flew down to ground, gathered a stick and brought it to the nest (nest building). He stayed there next to female and arranged the new stick a few times. The nest looks much bigger this week vs last week. OF NOTE: There are two other ospreys seen flying around sports complex, I believe they are trying to build another nest - two possible locations. One is the distant soccer field (no evidence of more than a few sticks up in one of the new light posts) and the second possible nest attempt is in the little league field before you enter the main Confreda sports complex area. There is evidence of several loose sticks hanging from one of the sports light poles. I am not sure these are male and female osprey as they both look like males to me?
April 28 | 12089 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | One osprey in nest (not 100% sure if on eggs, but I think so), and one osprey perching across field on another sports light pole. The new nest is still a big shabby, but perhaps there are more sticks than last week.
April 28 | 12102 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | An osprey was seen bringing a fish to the nest, but it only stayed less than a minute and flew off with the fish. Why? Maybe the female rejected it or maybe the male flew off to process the fish somewhere else and will return later? Another osprey came to the nest (no fish), attempted to land but got shooed away by the female in the nest. She flapped her wings vigorously. This happened two times! Are these invader males and not the partner? Not sure.
April 28 | 12087 | Kathy | 2 | N | N
Note: | Two ospreys seen on top of this skinny pole with evidence of more nest building. It is not likely eggs are in the nest yet, as neither adult is centered on nest continuously. One intruder male osprey flew to nest and the male chased him away.
April 28 | 12101 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
April 28 | 12204 | Kathy | 0 | N | N
Note: | Several adult osprey in this area. There are two nests in one field. This "west" nest is the one on the right when looking from the very distal softball field parking lot. I saw one osprey perched across field on a different light post. One adult brought a fish to this nest, stayed for less than one minute, and then flew away to another light post to perch there with the fish. It was not clear if an osprey was inside this nest incubating or not. The one with the fish looks like a female due to chest markings. ?
April 28 | 12094 | Kathy | 0 | N | N
Note: | Several ospreys flying around this area. One osprey seen perched across the field on a separate light post with a fish in its talons. There are two nests within the same softball field. This nest is the one on the left when parked in the lot facing the softball field. Cannot see any osprey in the nest (either one).
April 28 | 12086 | Kathy | 1 | N | N
Note: | Could see one osprey perched to the side of the nest, preening. It is not clear if there is a female deeper in the nest on eggs. Will say "no" for now. Saw another osprey fly right by heading in another direction.
May 5 | 12101 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Hard to see female's head in nest, but I did see her tail feathers when she adjusted her position. No sighting of male today.
May 5 | 12086 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Male osprey perched on lower part of cell tower. He flew off perhaps to get a fish.
May 5 | 12282 | Kathy | 2 | N | N | ||
Note: | 2 adults seen sitting on the nest. Possibly a third osprey coming and going? This new nest is in the Warwick North Little League field, near 80 Bend Street, just prior to entering the Confreda Sports Complex. The nest is much bigger than last week, and I saw one osprey bringing a stick to that nest. Perhaps it is not clear who the mated pair is yet?
May 5 | 12102 | Kathy | 0 | N | N | ||
Note: | Very rainy day. Could not see any osprey around today. The nest is very high up and hard to visualize without monitoring for a while to check for movement in the nest or arrival of male with stick or fish.
May 5 | 12087 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Rainy day. Male osprey was in the nest incubating, female returned to nest from a nearby flight and male switched positions with her. (He hopped to the side of the nest, and she resumed incubation). He then hopped on top of her to copulate. He flew off seconds later.
May 5 | 12204 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Other adult perching far across field on other sports light post. He flew to this nest with a fish in his talons, but he left with fish 1-2 minutes later.
May 5 | 12094 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | One other male osprey perched on light post next to this nest.
May 5 | 12090 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female in nest presumably incubating eggs; male with big fish in his talons flew over to the nest, vocalized, and then flew over to a nearby light post to process the fish/eat some for himself (before bringing some to her). The 2 other osprey nests seen at this location are coming along. One is in the distal soccer field at the end of Bend St. It appears there are 2 unique new ospreys sitting near the shabby nest being built, but not sure if any eggs are laid yet. The other new nest with 2 other unique ospreys is in the Warwick North Softball Little League field just prior to entering the Confreda Sports Complex. That nest is much bigger than last week, and I saw one osprey bringing a stick to that nest.
May 5 | 12089 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | One adult female seen on nest, and one adult male perched nearby. Noted additional nest building activity today.
May 6 | 12098 | Kathy | 1 | N | N | ||
Note: | Quick drive by going 95 South and saw one adult osprey perched off to the side of the nest. Not sure if female is in nest incubating?
May 12 | 12090 | Kathy | 0 | N | N | ||
Note: | Could not see female move around in nest this week like previously. No visual of adult male around. Nest looks great, so I suspect I didn't stay long enough to see the action.
May 12 | 12282 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Observed both adults on nest when I arrived. One flew to a nearby tree with a fish in his talons. Vocalizations heard. The nest looks bigger than last week. Nest building still ongoing. Two other adult osprey observed flying around the area.
May 12 | 12087 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Male flew over nest and perched in a nearby tree. Vocalizations heard.
May 12 | 12101 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | No sign of male today.
May 12 | 12094 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Male seen perched nearby.
May 12 | 12204 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Male perched off to side. Also witnessed copulation.
May 12 | 12086 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
May 12 | 12089 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female barely seen in nest most times, but with additional observation I saw her move around in there. Clear visual of her head. Male seen perched on other sports light pole.
May 13 | 12102 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Adult osprey seen flying high in the distance above nest.
May 19 | 12282 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Originally only one in nest but male arrived bringing nesting material and stayed on nest.
May 19 | 12090 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Male perched in usual place on sports light tower to the side of the main nest. Two other ospreys flew by and vocalizations heard.
May 19 | 12102 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
May 19 | 12089 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | At first, I observed only the female in the nest. She was rearranging sticks. Shortly thereafter, the male flew over and joined her in the nest just perched there for a short time. He flew away but returned to the nest again.
May 26 | 12282 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
May 26 | 12319 | Kathy | 0 | N | N | ||
Note: | There is only a partial shabby looking collection of sticks on this light post with no signs of ospreys on it. So, not a new active nest? I guess the two young (? previous fledglings) ospreys built the other new nest seen in the Warwick North Little League Baseball / Softball Field just outside the main entrance of Confreda Sports Complex. They are both seen on the other nest and it is active.
May 26 | 12087 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
May 26 | 12102 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | One adult seen flying over nest, landed, and the other one left to fly around the area for a bit. That one returned and appeared to go back to incubating. Other adult took off again. Both adults have white necks so it's hard to distinguish male from female.
May 26 | 12101 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | No sign of male | ||||||
May 26 | 12094 | Kathy | 0 | N | N | ||
Note: | None seen today (was only there a short time)
May 26 | 12204 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Male perched off to side on other light post
May 26 | 12086 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female seen in nest, but off to the side (?). The male was perched 2 levels down from her with a fish in his talons.
May 27 | 12098 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Drove by on 95 S and observed one adult perched on the side of the nest and presume other is on eggs in the nest. Cannot see female's head.
June 2 | 12282 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female appears to be in the middle of the nest, presumably still on eggs? She opened and stretched her wings, adjusted herself in the nest. I could not see any little heads in there.
June 2 | 12090 | Kathy | 1 | N | 1 | feeding, young laying down
Note: | Female on the side of the nest with one young one seen being fed. (Male was perched off to side and brought fish to nest. ) I cannot see any other heads in there.
June 2 | 12089 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female seen in middle of nest, appears to be incubating. Two ospreys circling above vocalizing.
June 2 | 12102 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Adult male perching nearby
June 2 | 12086 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Viewed from multiple angles, and from behind Vida Nails and Spa I could see the female’s head and neck in the nest. No hatchlings seen. One other adult flew by the nest a couple times.
June 2 | 12094 | Kathy | 2 | N | U | ||
Note: | One adult seen flew from nest to a nearby puddle on the ground for a drink of water, then she/he returned to nest. Other adult seen sitting on the side of the nest, presume young present.
June 2 | 12101 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | One adult in middle of nest,occasionally moving around. Can barely see head and sometimes neck. One other adult flying around field.
June 2 | 12204 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | 2 other ospreys seen flying around the area. Not clear if male partner for this nest or another male from distant nest.
June 2 | 12087 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | At first, only female in the middle of the nest. One distant osprey seen. Then, male osprey flew to nest, landed on top of female and flapped wings (copulation) , and then sat to the side of the nest, moved a stick around. Then he flew off.
June 3 | 12098 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female in middle of nest, male perched to side.
June 10 | 12098 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female in middle of nest, male perched off to side.
June 11 | 12102 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Adult perching nearby. Cannot tell if hatchlings in nest or still eggs?
June 11 | 12087 | Kathy | 2 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Similar to last week, witnessed female alone in nest with a visit from male, copulation, short company in the nest, and then flew off. I cannot see any hatchlings nor did I witness any feeding behavior.
June 11 | 12086 | Kathy | 2 | N | U | ||
Note: | Female up and on the side of the nest, saw one hatchling head. Maybe some feathers already forming as it looked like a tiny fledgling. Male was also on nest to the side.
June 11 | 12101 | Kathy | 1 | N | U | ||
Note: | Female sitting off to the side of the nests, presume young in the middle laying down. No sign of male today yet.
June 11 | 12094 | Kathy | 1 | N | U | ||
Note: | Female off to the side of the nest, presume babies in nest. Male was perched nearby but left possibly to go fishing? Did not witness him come back.
June 11 | 12204 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Male perched on adjacent sports light pole, as usual. He flew off and came back with a fish. He delivered it to the nest, stayed for 2-3 minutes, then took off. I did not see any signs of feeding young.
June 11 | 12282 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Female in middle of the nest, on eggs? Cannot see any young little heads. Male perched off on other light post in Field #2 as usual.
June 11 | 12090 | Kathy | 2 | N | U | ||
Note: | Both on sides of nest at first, then male left to go perch on nearby light post. Female stayed and preened her feathers, stretched out wings.
June 11 | 12089 | Kathy | 1 | N | 1 | young standing
Note: | Female seen moving around the side of the nest. She flew off briefly, circled the softball field and returned to the nest. I then saw one little head pop up in the nest. |
