March 26 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Ellen S reports: We are continuing to see and hear both male and female. They seem to be fixing up the nest and calling to each other.
March 31 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Ellen S reports: I continue to see the male and female in and around the nest. Yesterday they chased away a Bald Eagle which was amazing to watch. They continue to communicate with each other.
April 10 HHI Osprey Watch 2 Y N incubation
Note: Ellen S reports: Incubation probably began in early April. This conclusion is based on the reports of 4/10 saying the male was delivering food and that only her head was visible in the nest. Since no clear observation of incubation was reported March 31 but the April 10 report seems to indicate incubation, we will make a guess that it beganbetween 3/31 and 4/10 selecting April 5 as our best guess.
May 8 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N incubation
Note: Sandy P reports: The nest is not real high but difficult to get a good angle . I had heard Osprey noises when I got out of my car. There was also a male flying around with a fish in his talons. There was also large HHP tractor cutting the foliage along the lagoon bank right by the nest, probably why the Osprey was flying around and not coming right to the nest….I did not see the female’s head in the nest…. (Note Sandy is the new monitor of this nest and this update was an initial visit to find where the nest is located. We are assuming that incubation continues.)
May 18 HHI Osprey Watch 2 Y N incubation
Note: Sandy P reports: Monday 5/18/12 noon. Male Osprey sitting on tree next to nest and flew away. Ellen said he has been bringing fish into the nest. You can see females head in photo , left side of nest. She was busy chatting away.
June 2 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N 1 young laying down
Note: Sandy P reports: Nest 9434. Monday 6/2- 3:30 pm. Female standing up on right side of the nest. Lots of chattering. Did not see anymore movement in the nest nor did I see the male in the area. NOTE: Based on previous reports and this one with the female standing on the side of the nest with lots of chattering, we are assuming that thee egg(s) hatched. We will record hatching about May 20th...which is just our best guess based on an early April start of incubation.
June 8 HHI Osprey Watch 1 U 1
Note: Sandy P reports: You can see the female standing up in nest. Very quiet, no chattering. These eggs may be hatched too and she’s taking time out….. NOTE: This report seems to confirm that hatching occurred as previously indicated.
