January 25 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Sue F: There is no nest on the platform currently. In December I could have sworn I saw a male Osprey hanging out twice but I haven't seen anything since and I usually pass that way a couple of times a week so I assume I was mistaken...or he came and left.
February 5 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Sue F reports: no nest, no ospreys NOTE: nest may have been destroyed prior to the season due to weather events. It’s unclear if this pair will rebuild.

March 26 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: On 3/26 at 2:09 pm I did see an osprey on the nesting platform. Maybe the same one that I saw earlier in the day at the other location. I see no indication of a nest on the platform. All the other dates and times I have seen nothing. 3/17 12:14 pm & 2:48 pm 3/18 9:15 am & 11:58 am 3/23 12:43 pm & 3:34 pm 3/25 8:58 am & 11:57 am 3/26 12:26 pm

Note: Sue F reports: 4/2 1:19 & 2:28 nothing 4/6 3:21 & 5:32 nothing 4/8 8:49 & 1:42 nothing NOTE: This nest has not been productive for years
April 16 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: Amazingly I am now seeing an osprey! I pass this nest usually 4 to 6 times a week. Of course even with that, I am only seeing it for a couple of seconds. Definitely not the best way to observe it. 4/14 2:16 pm There was one standing on the nest. Not much of a nest but definitely something 4/15 9:14 am There was a bird sitting on the nest. 4/16 12:13 pm. There was a bird sitting on the nest.
May 6 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: 4/30 9:12 Osprey on nest 5/6. 11:37 I think I saw the female hunkered down in the nest but I really can't be sure. NOTE: This nest was marked lost in April, but that might have been premature. Still, there’s little evidence to date that this nest will be productive.
May 21 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Sue F reports: passed nest around 11am and it appeared empty.
May 26 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Sue F reports: passed at 9:25 and 12:07 and nest was empty. Does not look good for production this year.
June 22 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: I have passed this nest and there is an Osprey on the edge of the nest every time. I can not get a good look. Must be a young one? 2 times on Tuesday 6/16 about 9:15 am & 2:00 pm 4 times today, Sunday 6/22 about 11:45 am, 1:30 pm, 4:45 pm and 7:00 pm NOTE: As indicated previously, this nest is quite challenging to observe as it is off a busy road bridge. While it is possible that this osprey is a fledgling, it’s very tough to determine as photos are not possible to check eye color, for instance (amber of a chick vs yellow of an adult). There are also numerous nests in and around this area. The nest was determined “failed” in May after several observations indicating no activity, but it could have been premature. Sue will continue to check the nest .
June 25 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: one osprey in nest at 12:15 and again at 2:45. NOTE: Too tough to determine size, but at this point still assuming it’s an adult and not a chick. It could also be a young osprey of 1 or 2 years, just hanging out. No incubation behavior was ever observed in this nest
July 15 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Sue F reports: When I went off island this morning I saw no birds at the nest. On my way home there were two. I pulled off at Blue Heron Point Road and drove to the water. I have binoculars in the car. Definitely two! One the edge and another in the nest which I could not fully see. While I was there it disappeared down into the nest and I could no longer see it. The one on the edge looked like an osprey to me although I was pretty far a way.
July 22 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Sue F reports: passed the nest today at about 12:00. I got off at Blue Heron Point Rd. There was a bird on the nest. I watched for a while. Keep hoping I will see something more interesting or conclusive but no luck yet. NOTE: It has not been confirmed that the bird(s) seen in this osprey nest are indeed osprey. The only way to get a good look would be by boat. There has been no indication that any incubation ever took place. It is suspected that if this is indeed an osprey, it is using this nest for perching. It is built on a structure in the water which is ideal for fishing.
July 25 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N 1 young standing
Note: Joanne V reports: This has been a challenging nest to assess. Today, there were 3 birds in the nest. I observed this nest along with another monitor who is also a master birder. Her opinion is that all 3 birds are indeed ospreys, probably 2 adults and one fledgling. In previous observations there have been either no visible birds, one or two. I believe this is the first time with 3. NOTE: Dates for this nest are impossible to pinpoint at this time. Today’s date will be used as the “first fledge” date, although it is more likely that the first flight took place prior to today. NOTE: Based on an observation on 7/28, it is now suspected that the 3 ospreys are 1 adult and 2 chicks.
July 28 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N 2
Note: Sue F reports: I drove by this morning. Definitely 3 Ospreys. An adult on a post on the platform and two in the nest. The two in the nest looked to be similar in size and I don’t think they had white heads but can’t be sure. I pulled off at Blue Heron Point Road and watched for a while. The two in the nest were in a straight line so it only looked like one. I went back to get another look from the bridge. There were two in the nest and the one on the platform post.
July 29 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N 2 young standing
Note: Sue F. observed: I saw what looked like three birds. I drove down another approach and could see two in the nest. An Adult was on a pole nearby and then flew off.
August 11 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N 2 young standing
Note: Susan F reports for the week of August 4 - 13: 8/4 Monday 12:15 PM two chicks on the nest. I saw an adult on a pole not far away but there is no way to know if this was a parent. 2:10 PM two chicks on the nest. 8/11 Monday 12:14 PM only one chick on the nest 2:35 PM No birds on the nest. NOTE: It seems that the young have fledged...ie...flown from the nest. However, even after they flew from the nest they still often return to the nest and hang around for quite a while. 8/12 Tuesday 8:48 AM one chick on the nest 9:58 AM No birds on the nest. One bird was on a transmission tower right next to it. Looked small so it may have been one of the chicks? 8/13 Wednesday 12:15 PM one chick on the nest
August 19 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N 1
Note: Sue F reports: Monday 8/18 10:45 AM one chick on the nest 11:17 AM I did not see any birds. Tuesday 8/19 9:14 AM & 12:01 PM one chick on the nest
