| Note: | Mary Ellen B reports: Nest 8028: I went by this morning and did not see any ospreys on or near the nest. I saw one in the tree by the nest last week. A dredging project is underway in the canal between N. Calibogue Cay Rd. and the marsh off of Deer Island (shown by blue arrows on map) in Sea Pines. I hope this isn't affecting nesting UPDATE: After consulting with our group co-chair, we now believe that incubation probably started earlier than originally thought. Given the timeline with confirmed fledging in late May, we have adjusted the incubation and hatching dates. We now believe incubation started about March 1. | ||||||
| April 1 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | Y | N | incubation | ||
| Note: | Mary Ellen B reports: 8028: One osprey on the nest. I believe the osprey was laying down. At first I didn't think anything was there, but after watching and backing up, I eventually saw movement. | ||||||

| Note: | UPDATE: After consulting with our group co-chair, we now believe that incubation probably started earlier than originally thought. Given the timeline with confirmed fledging in late May, we have adjusted the incubation and hatching dates. Hatching most likely occurred about April 12th. | ||||||

| May 31 | HHI Osprey Watch | 2 | N | 2 | young standing | ||
| Note: | Mary Ellen B reports: 8028: when I arrived, there were two ospreys on the nest and a third sitting on a branch above the nest in the tree. There was also a 4th sitting in a nearby tree. One on the nest flew off followed shortly by the second which was followed by the Third on the above branch flying in the nest. The fourth in the nearby tree didn’t move. | ||||||
| May 31 | HHI Osprey Watch | 2 | N | 2 | young standing | ||
| Note: | Mary Ellen B sent a second image from 5/31 of the 4 osprey seen. NOTE: This 3/31 report and photos confirm that fledging has occurred. It appears there are two fledglings. | ||||||
| June 6 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | 2 | |||
| Note: | Mary Ellen B reports: 8028: One osprey was on a branch near the nest. A second flew over with a fish and landed in a nearby tree to eat it. I could hear at least one other osprey calling nearby. No movement in the nest - I assume it's empty now. NOTE: We are assuming that both have fledged and that the two seen were probably the juveniles. | ||||||
