Maps & Data

Description

Located behind #23 Cottonwood in Hilton Head Plantation. The nest was seen from Dolphin Head Golf Course between hole 10 and hole 18 (lagoon in between). Update 2025: the original nest is gone and it appears the same pair has taken up occupancy in a new nest nearby. We are transferring the nest # to this new tree.

February 2 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Carol M reports: As I mentioned last year I believe the nest has moved into a much higher tree nearby the old one. I had 1 osprey flying around week ago and now I see 2. I have not seen them in the nest . This nest is harder to monitor as it is so high. I hope these are my 2 that have returned!
March 6 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Carol M reports: Happy to report my pair has returned to the new location which now happens to be in my backyard. They are hanging out, flying around and adding more material to the nest each morning .
March 26 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Carol M reports: These 2 have moved into the tree in my backyard. They are still adding material to the nest and hanging out close to it. I don’t think the female has moved into it yet but I have observed mating behaviors. There are a few other osprey “visiting” so I am trying to figure out if there is another nest close by .the fishing is good in the lagoon behind my house so I think that is why we have seen so much activity.
April 10 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Carol M reports: Lots of activity going on here . I have the pair covering the nest. The female seems to be in it but this is a super high tree so can’t always figure it out. They are very noisy taking with each other. Yesterday we had a visiting osprey get into a physical fight close to the nest and over my yard. There seems to be at least 2 more osprey hanging around sometimes so I wonder if there is another nest nearby. NOTE: incubation is now being declared as Carol indicates hearing sounds in the nest even when an osprey is not visible in the nest. Also, the male is usually nearby.
