January 7 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Marge I reports the nest is there.
February 4 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Cheryl (subbing for Marge) Reports: The nest is looking big and solid, but no sign of activity around it just yet!
February 27 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Marge I reports: Two Osprey in the tree next to the nest. I am assuming it is my breeding pair.
March 3 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Marge I reports: One Osprey in the nest. After a few minutes it came out of the nest and was in a branch in the tree.
March 17 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: Marge I reports: One Osprey sitting upright in the nest calling out continuously today. March 17
March 29 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Marge I reports: Didn’t see any birds or hear anything. Hoping Mommy is deep in the nest.
March 29 HHI Osprey Watch 0 Y N incubation
Note: NOTE: Based on observations and the fact that hatching took place about April 29, we are guessing that incubation began about 3/23. This is our best estimate because it seems to have started between the reports of March 9 and 29.
April 9 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Marge I reports: Today around noon. Same as last time. Did not see or hear anything. I did try walking to different spots. I have my friends who golf a lot looking for me also.
April 30 HHI Osprey Watch 1 U N feeding
Note: Marge I reports: I am very relieved. Yesterday I saw an Osprey, assuming it was the mother, exhibiting feeding behavior. Her head going up and down then she went back in the nest.
May 5 HHI Osprey Watch 1 U Y feeding
Note: Marge I reports: One of my golfing friends reported hearing a juvenile calling out and the mother flew out. And came back with a fish
May 16 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N Y
Note: Marge I reports: No birds seen in the nest or nearby. None of my friends have seen or heard anything since my last report . NOTE: If hatching occurred as we have indicated in late April, the young would still be too small to be seen in the nest.
May 22 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N Y
Note: Marge I reported: A friend just shared with me that she saw an adult in the nest a week ago. (extrapolated date as 5/22) Marge also states: No birds seen or heard from the nest or seen in the tree or flying around. This has been a confusing year for me. Early on I saw the adults. Then saw the mother exhibiting feeding behavior but nothing since 05/05 NOTE: We assume that there is still at least one youngster based on reported feeding behavior. The young one may have still been down in the nest.
June 3 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Marge I reports: Did not see or hear any birds today. Watched the nest from different angles. Did not detect any movement. NOTE: If incubation started as we thought in late March with hatching late April, there should be young. Not sure what is happening right now.
June 12 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Marge I. and friends report: Three of us checked the nest on 06/09 O6/10 and O6/11. None of us saw or heard any birds. NOTE: This nest is puzzling. If hatching was about when we think, April 29th, and feeding reported on 4/30 and 5/5, there should be at least one good sized youngster in the nest and the parents should still be bringing fish to the nest. The lack of seeing the young in the nest is a concern. I think it is doubtful that fledging has happened because no good sized youngsters have been seen and also fledging is about 50+ days after hatching so it would be a bit early for this to have happened. Lack of activity in the past few weeks could be signs that the young didn't make it and the adults left. Again, there is no way to be sure about this.
