| Note: | Mary K reports: No change since last observation reporting the nest is still there. No osprey present yet. NOTE: THIS IMAGE SHOWS NEST 7293 AND NEST 2514 from the parking lot. 2514 is shown on the LEFT and 7295 is on the right in the distance. | ||||||
| February 8 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: An adult osprey was observed standing on the metal structure above the nest, turning it's head. | ||||||
| February 22 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: An adult bird with a brown body and a white head was observed sitting in the nest, it then flew out of the nest and was joined by two other birds flying together. While flying the birds' wings were in a linear position, like an eagle, rather than in a M position like an osprey. One bird returned to the osprey nest. I think it may be an eagle that is occupying the osprey nest. | ||||||
| March 8 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: an adult bird that appears to be an eagle was observed sitting on the structure above the osprey nest | ||||||
| March 22 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: an adult bird that appears to be an osprey was observed sitting on the structure above the osprey nest. It could not be determined if it was a male or female osprey. | ||||||
| April 11 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: one adult osprey was observed sitting in the nest. | ||||||
| April 12 | HHI Osprey Watch | 2 | Y | N | incubation | ||
| Note: | Mary Kelly reports: Nest 7293: the top of an adult osprey's head was observed deep in the nest. Returning a few hours later, the nest appeared empty, then an osprey was observed flying overhead, and it flew to the nest where it came to rest on the structure above the nest. See photo. Note; based on this observation, we will list incubation as having started as of 4-12-2026 | ||||||
| April 26 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | Y | N | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: no apparent activity was observed. While it may be possible that an osprey is lying flat in the nest, it is difficult to see from the observation position | ||||||
| May 10 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | U | N | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: Two eagles were observed sitting on the structure above the osprey nest. They sat there for the entire time of my observation, at least twenty minutes. Note: While not observed, we believe that incubation probably is still ongoing. | ||||||
| May 25 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | U | 1 | feeding | ||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: a week ago, an adult bird was observed standing on structure above the nest. Today, an adult osprey was observed in the nest with a head-bobbing feeding motion into the nest. NOTE: This observation confirms hatching has occurred. We will estimate the hatching date as 5/20based on incubation date of 4/12. We are assuming 1 chick but will update it when more can be seen. | ||||||
| June 9 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | Y | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: I observed this nest on Sunday June 7 and June 9 and I did not observe any activity on either date. | ||||||
| June 23 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | Y | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: I visited this nest twice today and did not observe any activity either time. | ||||||
| July 8 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: Nest 7293: July 7: An osprey was observed standing straight up on the structure above the nest, it then flew away. July 8: No activity was observed. Note: No juveniles were observed but it is likely at least one is in the nest. | ||||||
| July 11 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Sue F subbing for Mary reports: 7/11 Viewed the nest from 2 locations 1st location: Osprey flying off the nest Osprey came to the nest and then flew off 2nd location: Osprey on the nest | ||||||
| July 13 | HHI Osprey Watch | 2 | N | 1 | |||
| Note: | Sue F subbing for Mary reports: 7/12 Viewed the nest from 2 locations on both 7/12 and 7/13: 7/12: Did not see any ospreys 7/13: 1st location: Osprey on the tower below the nest. Appeared to be an adult 2nd location: Osprey standing on the nest. Flew off the nest to land on the platform the nest is on. I watched for 45 minutes hoping it would fly as I thought it was a juvenile. At one point 2 ospreys flew into the area but quickly left. NOTE: This report suggesting one was the juvenile very well might be the case. If hatching occurred about when thought about 5/20, then the youngster should be fledging about 50 - 55 days after that. This falls right in that time frame. For now, we will record it as 1 juvenile who has fledged. | ||||||
| July 14 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | 1 | young standing | ||
| Note: | Sue F (subbing for Mary K) reports: 7/14 Two ospreys, one on the nest and one on the tower next to the nest. The one in the nest took off flying downwards and out of sight. Within 10 minutes the other osprey flew away too. I could not tell for sure if they were adults or juveniles. Possibly the one in the nest was a juvenile. | ||||||
| July 18 | HHI Osprey Watch | 1 | N | 1 | |||
| Note: | Sue F subbing for Mary K reports for 7/14-7/18: Nest 7293 (Public Service Building/Palmetto Electric Cooperative) 7/14 1st visit: reported in my last email 2nd visit; 2nd visit: One osprey in the nest 7/15 1st visit: One osprey in the nest. 2nd visit: Osprey on the tower below the nest. Appeared to be an adult. One osprey in the nest which as I watched moved to the edge of the nest. Flexed its wings a bit. It then flew off the nest in a downward direction which I could not follow. I believe it was a juvenile. The other osprey stayed where it was on the tower. 7/17 1st visit: 1 osprey on the nest. 1 osprey standing next to the nest. The first one flew off in a downward direction. 2nd visit: 1 osprey standing next to the nest. 7/18 Visited the nest 2 times and saw no ospreys. NOTE: Based on this update, this is additional confirmation of fledging reported earlier. | ||||||
| July 22 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | Y | |||
| Note: | Mary K reports: 7/21 one osprey perched above nest 7/22 no activity was observed NOTE: We assume this was a juvenile. | ||||||
| July 25 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Updated distance view of 7293 as a location aid. | ||||||
| July 28 | HHI Osprey Watch | 0 | N | N | |||
| Note: | Additional help for locating the nest: A Public Service employee provided a more precise location for this nest. It is at the top of a 911 tower. The map added shows the location of the nest in RED and a BLUE dot to show the location from which it is normally viewed. | ||||||
