Description

Nest 7019 is located on the cell phone tower off Fish Haul Road. It can be viewed from Hickory Forest Drive and it is clearly visible when there are no leaves on the trees. Visibility from here will not be as good later as the trees come into full leaf. From outside of Hilton Head Plantation the nest is located near 5 Alice Perry and can be viewed from about 239 Fish Haul. Additional details: If you drive past the HF Parking area, (on your left) continue until you get to #47 Hickory Forest Drive. There is an area opposite that house that you can pull off as there is an undeveloped area. Behind #47 to the left you will see a cell phone tower and it is here that the osprey has started to build the nest. Update for 2026: The nest sits in a cell tower off of Fish Haul Road and is more easily observed from Palmetto Hall Cupp Course. The nest is observed basically from the # 4 green. However, it is not always possible to observe from the course

February 12 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: I did not see any Osprey
February 19 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: Linda O reports: • Last week when I went around I did not see any Osprey Today, February 19th at about 4:12 pm, I observed 1 osprey in the nest, appearing to be looking around for its mate. Luckily, I was there at the perfect moment and the mate flew in, I believe it to be the male, but it is kind of far away and I could not discern male and female with my binoculars. They were definitely a pair by their interactions. I will bring my camera next time.
March 7 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: Linda O reports: • I observed the nest on March 7th at about 5:31 PM from the Fish Haul Rd. area, which is outside of the Palmetto Hall Golf Course, and it was empty, looking kind of sad. I could not see any osprey in the surrounding area on any of the surrounding trees either. NOTE: This photo is from 3/18. Two were submitted so one is posted here and the other on the 18th update.
March 18 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N incubation
Note: Linda O reports: • I again observed the nest on March 18th at about 10:12 AM and was happy to see one of the pair sitting in the nest and she/he appeared to be sitting low in the nest. I hope she is sitting on some eggs. 2 Pictures are attached. NOTE: Based on this report, we are tentatively recording incubation as beginning.
March 25 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N incubation
Note: Linda O reports: I checked on Nest No. 7019 this morning and all looked good. The nest is definitely occupied as you can see by the picture. I did not see a mate in the area.
April 10 HHI Osprey Watch 2 Y N incubation
Note: Linda O reports: The female Osprey is low in the nest, incubating. From the 1st incubating sighting of 3/18, I calculate this to be about day 25. So maybe another 10 days or so. She stayed low in the nest the whole time I was there. The male flew in and brought some kind of food, but I could not tell what. He seemed to settle there and stayed the whole time I was there. (Photo 1)

Note: Linda O added a second image of the nest from her observation of 4-10-26
April 22 HHI Osprey Watch 1 Y N incubation
Note: Linda O reports for 4/22 • On 4/22 at about 4:30 pm from the Palmetto Hall, Cupp Course I observed one Osprey still low in the nest, nothing exciting or unusual to report. To me, she still looked like she was sitting on eggs. This would have been about day #25.
April 29 HHI Osprey Watch 1 U Y feeding
Note: Linda O reports: • Today, 04-29-26 at about 4:30 pm from the Fish Haul Roadside I observed one Osprey moving about a little popping a head up and it could have looked like it was feeding or taking care of young. It was hard to tell even with my binoculars. NOTE: Based on the incubation data and this observation, we will tentatively list hatching as having occurred. We hope to get more confirming evidence in the next update but the change in behavior indicated at least one egg has hatched.
May 14 HHI Osprey Watch 1 U N
Note: Linda O reports: On May 14 I observed nest #7019 from the Palmetto Hall, Cupp Course, hole #4. I only saw 1 bird and I assume it was the female. She was low in the nest as usual but could not tell if there were any young ones or not. NOTE: Based on previous observations and timing, it is assumed there is at least 1 young one in the nest although none were seen today.
May 20 HHI Osprey Watch 2 U N feeding
Note: Linda O reports: • Today, May 20, 2026, I observed the nest from Fish Haul Road. At first there was only the one Osprey, but as I waited around a second one flew in, I think bringing dinner, but I did not get a clear picture to be positive. I did observe what looked like the feeding process or at least preparation. I could not see any little heads though. It is a deep-welled nest. A picture is attached of the two Osprey. I hope to get back to the nest on the weekend or during the week. NOTE: Based on the observation and the photo, it does look like feeding was in progress. The little ones may still be very hard to see in this deep nest at this stage.
