HHI Osprey Watch
Description
Nest 7019 is located on the cell phone tower off Fish Haul Road. It can be viewed from Hickory Forest Drive and it is clearly visible when there are no leaves on the trees. Visibility from here will not be as good later as the trees come into full leaf. From outside of Hilton Head Plantation the nest is located near 5 Alice Perry and can be viewed from about 239 Fish Haul. Additional details: If you drive past the HF Parking area, (on your left) continue until you get to #47 Hickory Forest Drive. There is an area opposite that house that you can pull off as there is an undeveloped area. Behind #47 to the left you will see a cell phone tower and it is here that the osprey has started to build the nest.

Note: | Alan B: This nest was completely gone when I went over to look for it this morning. I’ll check in on it periodically to see when/if the birds return if they’re going to rebuild it.

Note: | Linda O: I am following up with you on Osprey Nest 7019. I went out on Friday, 5/9 at about 3:30 PM The nest is more easily observed from the Cupp Course in Palmetto Hall between holes 5 & 6. These pics attached are from the golf course. It appears to be a deep nest, so it is hard to see what is happening. In the one picture it looks to me that there is the tiniest bit of an Osprey head just above the nest branches. Difficult to spot. At times when I can not be on the golf course I will observe from the street side that you showed me. I will be going back at different times of day to try to observe more action or possibly a mate bringing in some food.

Note: | Linda O: Want to let you know that I checked the nest last Thursday, 5/22 and yesterday 5/29. Last week I saw no activity and this week, to me, the nest looked a little scattered as though a storm may have moved some of it about. I will check it again here in the next day or so. Hopefully my observation is incorrect.

Note: | Linda O: I visited the Osprey Nest #7019 today from the Fish Haul Beach Rd. Side and definitely observed an osprey in the nest. To me it looked like it was looking for its partner to bring food. It is kind of far away as you know, but Osprey was definitely there. I couldn't see any little heads yet.

Note: | Linda O: I was able to observe the nest from the golf course side today. There is definitely an Osprey in the next picture attached. I could not see any little heads, the nest is very high. Of course, when I put the camera away the Osprey flew off. It didn't come back. Hoping to catch some interaction with a mate or little ones at some point. |
