January 31 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: MAT reports no activity observed yet.
February 23 HHI Osprey Watch 0 N N
Note: MAT reports: no activity
March 15 HHI Osprey Watch 1 N N
Note: MAT reports: Today, 3/15/25, Hilton Head Island SC - Checked Nest #2520 and one male, Nick, was perched on a nearby tree chowing down on a fish. Nora not in sight; nest looks good, but empty. Will continue to monitor- 1 Photo of Nick.
March 18 HHI Osprey Watch 2 N N
Note: MAT reports: Checked Nest #2520 - observed Nora on the nest and Nick in tree watching her. Not sure Nora is actually incubating yet but will look tomorrow to see if she is still on the nest. Glad they have both returned and are exhibiting mating behavior!
March 19 HHI Osprey Watch 1 U N
Note: MAT reports she believes Nora is incubating. 3/19/25 will be recorded for initiation and MAT will continue to monitor for confirmation.
May 5 HHI Osprey Watch 2 U N incubation
Note: MAT reports: Nora is still on the nest incubating. I didn't see any evidence of a chick. Nick dropped off a fish and then flew to a nearby tree to preen. I think a chick will be on the way in the next few days.
May 14 HHI Osprey Watch 2 U U
Note: MAT reports: Checked Nick and Nora at Nest #2520 - congrats to Nick and Nora, who are proud parents to at least one chick and possibly two or more. Based on my observations, I estimate the first chick hatched around May 10th and hopefully more will emerge.
May 24 HHI Osprey Watch 1 3 3 young standing
Note: MAT reports: three chicks are now grown enough to be very visible (see photo).
June 3 HHI Osprey Watch 1 3 3 young standing
Note: Mat Reports that Nora and her 3 nestlings are doing well.
June 26 HHI Osprey Watch 0 U 3
Note: MAT reports: No adults present - only two nestlings. Both were alert, calling, and stretching their wings. They have huge wing spans now. Third nestling was not visible, so I feared the worst. Then heard Osprey in the distance and Nora flew in with an Atlantic Mackerel and sat in a tree and started eating it. Then another Osprey flew into the same tree a couple of branches over Nora's head, so I assumed it was Nick. Turns out it was the third nestling who apparently had fledged either yesterday or earlier this morning. After Nora was finished, she took the fish to the two nestlings for breakfast. She did not assist them in eating; the nestlings had to tear the fish themselves. The third nestling (fledgling) did not return to the nest while I was there - photo of fledgling
