Note: | There were new sports lights put up this year, so the nest from last year is completely gone. However, I do see a new nest (in progress) in the same exact location that is currently empty. My guess is that both male and female are flying around working on building up the nest. Since there is a second nest at this site, there were several osprey flying around. There was 1 adult flying around field; 1 adult perched across field on other sports light structure; 1 adult flying over towards water.
April 28 | Kathy | 0 | N | N | |||
Note: | Several ospreys flying around this area. One osprey seen perched across the field on a separate light post with a fish in its talons. There are two nests within the same softball field. This nest is the one on the left when parked in the lot facing the softball field. Cannot see any osprey in the nest (either one).
May 5 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | One other male osprey perched on light post next to this nest.
May 12 | Kathy | 1 | U | N | incubation
Note: | Male seen perched nearby.
May 26 | Kathy | 0 | N | N | |||
Note: | None seen today (was only there a short time)
June 2 | Kathy | 2 | N | U | |||
Note: | One adult seen flew from nest to a nearby puddle on the ground for a drink of water, then she/he returned to nest. Other adult seen sitting on the side of the nest, presume young present.
June 11 | Kathy | 1 | N | U | |||
Note: | Female off to the side of the nest, presume babies in nest. Male was perched nearby but left possibly to go fishing? Did not witness him come back.
June 16 | Kathy | 2 | N | U | feeding
June 24 | Kathy | 1 | N | 1 | young laying down
Note: | Adult female had wings out sheltering however many nestlings in nest; very hot today! I only saw one nestling clearly. Male osprey was perched on the nearby light pole as usual
July 2 | Kathy | 1 | N | 1 | young standing
Note: | Female had wings out over nestling(s); unknown number in total but one clearly seen. Mom was poking at her large baby and around the nest tidying up. The nestling seen opening her wings a bit. Looked almost fully feathered. There were two other adult ospreys flying high off in the distance, one landed on his usual perch near this nest.
July 7 | Kathy | 1 | N | 1 | young laying down
Note: | Male seen bringing fish to nest. Also, saw male intruder being chased for a while
July 14 | Kathy | 1 | N | 1 | young standing
Note: | One fledgling left the nest and was perched on nearby pole. Could not see other young in nest, so unsure of its status. Adult male perched nearby nest. Adult female flew off, maybe to get fish?
July 28 | Kathy | 0 | N | U | young laying down
Note: | Very hard to see into this nest, despite viewing from various angles. More observation time is needed! I do believe there is one young from this nest, but could not confirm today. I saw one osprey flying around being chased by another osprey nest male. Not clear if an intruder or if this osprey is the male from this nest?
August 4 | Kathy | 0 | N | N | |||
Note: | One adult possibly from this nest perching nearby. No sign of adult female or any young today. |
