Date Watcher Adults Eggs Young Observations Photo Edit
April 21 Kathy 1 N N
Note: New light fixtures were put in this year, so the old nest is gone. Interestingly, the ospreys built their new nest on a light pole adjacent to where it was last year. It is not quite as robust of a nest as last year, so we'll see if they keep adding sticks to it. I saw one female on the nest, but it is not clear if she is incubating yet as I have seen her absent from the nest on other days last week as well. One adult male perched on a light post across the softball field.
April 27 mferreira 1 N N
April 28 Kathy 1 U N incubation
Note: One osprey in nest (not 100% sure if on eggs, but I think so), and one osprey perching across field on another sports light pole. The new nest is still a big shabby, but perhaps there are more sticks than last week.
May 4 mferreira 1 U N incubation
Note: Could barely see the head of the osprey sitting on the nest, low in the nest cup
May 5 Kathy 1 U N incubation
Note: One adult female seen on nest, and one adult male perched nearby. Noted additional nest building activity today.
May 8 mferreira 1 U N incubation
May 12 Kathy 1 U N incubation
Note: Female barely seen in nest most times, but with additional observation I saw her move around in there. Clear visual of her head. Male seen perched on other sports light pole.
May 16 mferreira 1 U U
May 19 Kathy 2 U N incubation
Note: At first, I observed only the female in the nest. She was rearranging sticks. Shortly thereafter, the male flew over and joined her in the nest just perched there for a short time. He flew away but returned to the nest again.
May 29 mferreira 1 U U incubation
May 30 Kathy 1 N 3
Note: Adult osprey in nest with 3 young, then he/she left the nest. Did not stay long enough to see when adults returned.
June 2 Kathy 1 U N incubation
Note: Female seen in middle of nest, appears to be incubating. Two ospreys circling above vocalizing.
June 11 Kathy 1 N 1 young standing
Note: Female seen moving around the side of the nest. She flew off briefly, circled the softball field and returned to the nest. I then saw one little head pop up in the nest.
June 15 mferreira 2 U 1 incubation, feeding
Note: Male standing on light, then brought over food to nest. Female osprey observed in nest and also one small nestling head seen!
June 16 Kathy 1 N U
Note: Adult female was sitting on the left side of the nest poking around the branches with her bill. Adult male flew toward nest but female vocalized at him, he hovered in the air and then flew off. Perhaps he flew toward the ocean to get a fish?
June 19 1 U 2 Add Photo Edit
Note: Two nestlings seen with one adult in the nest
June 20 mferreira 1 N U
Note: 1 adult seen standing on the side of nest, nestlings not visible today
June 25 Kathy 1 N 1 young laying down
Note: Adult female holding wings out over at least one hatchling. Very hot today! 95 degrees. She shifted her position often, mouth open appeared panting? She flew away from nest. No sign of adult male during this short visit.
June 27 mferreira 1 U 1 feeding, young standing
Note: Only observed adult feeding one nestling, couldn’t see any others. Observed feeding for about 5 minutes total, and was still doing so at the end of the window
July 5 mferreira 1 U 2 young laying down
July 7 Kathy 1 N 2 young standing
July 10 mferreira 1 N 2 young standing
Note: 1 adult on nest with young, 2 young visible, stretching wings and looking alert
July 14 Kathy 1 N 3 young standing
Note: Adult female in the middle of the nest and I saw two young poke their heads up, could not see third but presume still there. She was vocalizing a lot to the male, who was perched on a nearby sports light pole. Another osprey flew by and there were more vocalizations from both adult female and adult male. There are some guys installing the rest of a large cell phone tower in this area, but the osprey did not seem interested or bothered by the commotion.
July 20 mferreira 2 N 3 young standing
Note: Lots of activity, one adult osprey on light post across field. Another osprey above on parking lot light—after observation with binoculars, looked like a likely recent fledge. Eyes were more orange, feathers more scaled, and it seemed to be practicing flapping on the pole. Looking at nest, it looked like there was an adult with two of the other young. One young was practicing flapping and hovered above the nest several times.
July 20 mferreira 1 N 2 young laying down
Note: One adult on one of the light poles calling at the other nearby osprey overhead. Saw a glimpse of two young in the nest briefly.
July 23 Kathy 1 N 3 young standing
July 26 mferreira 2 N 3 young standing
Note: All three young have fledged! One adult on nest with a fledgling who took a lap around the field and returned to the nest. The other two were flying around by surrounding houses, ultimately perched on the backstop. Another adult high in the communications tower.
July 28 Kathy 0 N N
Note: All 3 young no longer in nest. Fledged. One osprey (unknown if adult or one of the young was seen perched on the new cell phone tower in the park).
August 3 mferreira 0 N N
Note: No osprey seen, as of last check all had fledged.
August 4 Kathy 0 N 2 young standing
Note: One adult osprey perched on light post nearby, and one young perched on a different pole. Adult male then seen chasing another young one all around the softball field, until the young landed in the nest. The adult chased it out of the nest and the adult went back to a different perch. The young one just flew away out of sight for a little while. The adult then flew to the new cell phone tower to perch. The second fledgling stayed perched the whole time, no sign of third fledgling or adult female.
August 9 mferreira 0 N 1 young standing
Note: 1 fledgling sitting back in the nest
August 16 mferreira 1 N N
Note: Adult on tall tower
